Global Play Day at Belle
The students at Belle River recently took part in Global Play Day. This special event took place on Wednesday, February 5th, 2020. The entire school participated in this event from 2:00-3:30 in the afternoon. The students enjoyed unstructured play with their peers during this time. February 4, 2015, was the first annual Global School Play Day for students in schools around the world. In year one, over 65,000 students participated! Over 177,000 students took part in 2016. In 2017, over 283,000 kids celebrated Global School Play Day. In 2018, over 385,000 students from 58 nations participated. In 2019, just the 5th year of the event, 535,690 from 72 nations played. In 2020, 563,283 students from 75 Nations joined. This event stresses the importance of kids being kids and what they can gain from interacting with their peers without any devices for unstructured play. The students at Belle River enjoyed this special event very much.
AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION "HEART HEALTHY" GRANT AWARD WINNERS!
On the first Friday of every February, which is designated as American Heart Month, the nation comes together, to focus on the eradication of heart disease and stroke. Mr. and Mrs. Westerhof, through a grant from the American Heart Association, were able to purchase five low profile peddlers for Mrs. Westerhof’s classroom. Not only are students improving their heart health while pedaling, but there has been a huge improvement in students’ ability to maintain focus on their studies, while using them. Mrs. Westerhof’s class is so appreciative of the American Heart Association for this grant!
Belle River Coding Club
Another exciting club is in full swing at Belle. The Coding Club is led by teachers Kelly Robbins and Nicole Denny. This is the second year for this club and it is growing into a very popular place to be after school for some of our 4th and 5th graders. The Google CS First Storytelling Club is their chance to bring their stories to life on the computer and share them with others. They develop characters and dialogue, build intriguing plots, and use computer-generated effects to add excitement, mystery, and interactivity to their stories. In this club, they combine classic elements of storytelling, like characterization, premise, dialogue, and setting, with computer programming. Their audience does not just read these stories – they experience them.
2019-2020 Belle River Yearbook Cover Contest Winners
Each year the students at Belle River can submit an entry to have their artwork displayed on the cover of the yearbook for all to see. We have so many talented artists that it was an extremely difficult decision this year. However, this year’s winners are…'

Moving and Grooving
Mrs. Nowak and Mrs. Sulecki have our students’ moving and grooving here at Belle River. The students are so fortunate to experience all of the different types of instruments and how they work. They enjoy hearing the different sounds and learning how to make music. From our youngest learners through our most musically advanced learners, we get to see and hear their musical creations.
