From the principal
Dear parents and care givers,
Welcome to week 9, Term 2 – we are nearly half way through our school year!
Our teachers are finalizing reports and they will be ready for students to take home with them on Monday.
In addition, communication will be coming from Mr King regarding parent/teacher interviews in Week 2 of next term.
We are hoping that we will have good responses, as it’s an opportunity for parents and carers to discuss their child’s progress to date, as well as clarify anything in the written reports.
Our third Gala Day is this Friday, as well as our Athletics Championships next Wednesday.
Let’s cross our fingers that we have good weather for both events.
Mrs Essex will be communicating advice that parents and carers will need to adhere to COVID -19 protocols for attendance at Onslow Oval.
Please ensure you follow all the information provided and thank you in advance for your understanding.
Our wonderful P&C met on June 1 and have included in the Newsletter a fundraising idea that was initiated by two of our students, Cooper and Ruby.
We hope you can support us in this community fundraiser.
Enjoy the winter holidays and we look forward to seeing you all in Term 3!
Kind regards
Kelly Paton
Principal

Important Information regarding Student Absences
Do you know if your child is attending school at least 90% of the time?
We have noticed an increase in the number of our students who are not, and although 90% sounds okay it still equates to your child missing an average of 1 school day per fortnight, or 20 school days over the year. 20 school days is the same as them missing 4 school weeks each year.
We will be monitoring students who fall below 90% attendance rate and will be making contact with families whose children do not rise above this 90% mark.
Please be aware that our guidelines require that all students upon returning to school from any absence must have a detailed explanation provided either through a note, an email or through Skoolbag. Unwell and Sick is not a sufficient explanation.
Children will be unable to attend class until this explanation is received. We have had a large volume of children returning to school from absences without explanations and it is impacting on their learning.
If your child has an absence of more than 2 consecutive days they are required to have a medical certificate upon their return to school.
In addition, if a child presents at school with a COVID-19 symptom of any kind, no matter how mild, they will need to be collected from school. They will be unable to return until they receive a negative COVID-19 test result and they are no longer suffering symptoms.
The negative test results need to be supplied to the office before your child can return to class.
Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us keep our community safe.
All students are expected to be at school and ready to learn prior to 9:00am every day.
We are monitoring the students arriving late to school and will be working closely with families to improve this situation.
Please don't hesitate to contact me should you require further information.

Parent Information Regarding Athletics Championship at Onslow Oval
On Wednesday 23rd June 2021, our Year 3 to 6 students as well as the Year 2 students who are turning 8 this year will be travelling by bus to Onslow Oval at Camden.
Please be aware of the following reminders:
Just like a normal day at school, students should not attend if unwell, even with mild symptoms of COVID-19.
All visitors to the Championship must be well and symptom free.
Parents and visitors to the championship will be required to sign-in to the event for record keeping purposes. This will be set up near the recording area.
Adults must adhere to the ongoing 1.5m physical distancing requirements.
Students are to wear appropriate joggers / sneakers (metal spikes are not allowed for this event, however, rubber spiked running shoes are acceptable).
Students can wear their house colours.
Students are to apply sunscreen and bring a hat.
There will not be a canteen. Students are to bring their food for the day and a drink bottle which can be refilled with water as required.
If required, parents are to use the public toilets located adjacent to the Camden Show Hall.
If you are available to assist with timekeeping on the day, please call the office and leave a message and we will contact you.
Looking forward to a great day!
The Athletics Committee.

First Aid
If a student is sent to the office with flu like symptoms we will call their parents to organise for them to be collected as soon as possible.
Your child should not attend school if they are showing any flu like symptoms.
Your support in keeping our school healthy and safe is appreciated.
Morning Duty of Care
Our teachers are on duty at school from 8:30am each morning. Unfortunately we have noticed a growing number of students arriving before this time in the mornings. These children are unsupervised. We urge all parents not to send their children to school before 8:30am. We realise that work commitments have an impact, however, should this be an issue for you please consider before school care providers such as Camp Australia.

PYJAMA DAY P&C Fundraiser
Wear your Pyjama’s to school on Tuesday 22nd June and support 2 great charities.
A very caring family have come to us asking for help to support the less fortunate this winter.
A lot of families are still trying to get back on their feet after the impact of 2020 and, as the temperature continues to drop, there are some without the basic means to keep warm, get medical care they require, or have a bed to sleep in. But their compassion did not stop there, they also wanted to extend help to homeless pets too.
Turning Point Camden, a community welfare and dropin centre that provides immediate need, as well as services to give people options to choose a way forward.
Animal Welfare League NSW, Kemps Creek shelter is one of many across NSW that provide care to surrendered, neglected and injured animals.
Here is how you can help!
*Wear your pyjama's to school on 22nd June and bring a gold coin donation.
**Sleep outside of your comfort zone these school holidays and ask family and friends to sponsor you. Roll out a sleeping bag in your living room or pitch a tent in your back yard.
***Donate non perishable items like sugar, pasta, rice, tin food, condiments and long life milk. Toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, towels and blankets.
A collection point will be available in each classroom up until Friday 16th July.
Harrington Park Public School P & C Association are proud to be able to help these students fulfill their wishes and thank you for your support.
