Spanish
September, 2023
Note from your teacher
Hola familias de Lowell,
We hope you are all staying healthy and doing well! We had a great start of the year! We started by getting to know our Spanish class, introducing names and practicing greetings in Spanish across all grades. Additionally, we have been learning about Hispanic countries and cultural aspects of Hispanic culture, such as music, food, and more to our lessons in celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, which it is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th.
We'll be sending a Spanish newsletter monthly to keep families informed about what students are learning in our class.
We are looking forward to a great school year!
Best,
Señora Quesada & Señora Mitchell

MEET YOUR TEACHERS
Señora Quesada
¡Bienvenid@s a la clase de Español! My name is Sandra Quesada and I am happy to be your child's Spanish teacher in this great Lowell community.
I am originally from Costa Rica and moved to the United States back in 2008 after marring my husband Robert.
I taught Spanish as a second language in Costa Rica to various levels and ages and realized that I wanted to be an elementary teacher. When I moved to the United States, I started college and got an Associate's Degree in Elementary from MassBay Community College. I transferred to UMass Boston and got a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. During that time, I started working in the field of early childhood and eventually got my Master's Degree in Early Childhood from Cambridge College.
Before teaching in Watertown, I taught Spanish in kindergarten in a dual language program in Waltham Public Schools. While teaching there, I discovered how much I love teaching Spanish.
When I am not teaching, I love spending time outdoors with my family. I love nature! I also enjoy biking, running, knitting, drawing, poetry, cooking, and crafting.
I love teaching Spanish and witnessing students become bilingual or multilingual starting at a young age while they learn about other cultures. My goal is to inspire children to learn Spanish through meaningful and applicable interactions so that they can use it beyond the classroom.

Señora Mitchell
Hola, my name is Johanna Mitchell. I am originally from Barranquilla Colombia. I graduated from Universidad Del Norte (Barranquilla-Colombia) as an Early Childhood Education Teacher and also worked as a Second grade teacher there.
In 2010 I moved to United state as an Au Pair. I took care of 4 children. I thought them Spanish while I was working on perfecting my english. In 2012 I got married and decided to started a new chapter in my life in this beautiful country.
Before I became a Spanish teacher I worked as a Kindergarten teacher in a daycare. Then I got the opportunity to start the next chapter in my life here in the Lowell school as an Instructional assistant for 3 years. This is my second year as a Spanish teacher at the Lowell school.
Learning another language is a wonderful achievement to benefit from and I am very excited to continue teaching Spanish this year!
