Pay it Forward
As we approach the holidays many of us are getting our to do list together to prepare for the upcoming festivities. If you are making your list and checking it twice, is giving to a local charity on the list? Some of us give to food drives, clothing drives, or volunteer time at a shelter around this time of year. If you only do this once a year, do you ever ask yourself why do you only do it at this time? If you are giving and serving throughout the year than you may already have the concept of Paying it Forward.
When you hear the word paying, usually it is in reference to paying someone back, what about someone you don’t owe. In the year of 2000 there was a movie titled Pay it Forward. I encourage you to see this film, it’s a must see! Although it’s not a Christian based film, the concept of sowing and reaping is heavily used. The movie is centered around a young boy who was given a school project to come up with an idea that will make a positive change in the world. The idea proposed that you do something good for three people you do not know, and in turn encourage them to do something good for three other people. If the chain continued on as planned, then the world become a little bit better because we all are helping each other in a time of need.
A Christian radio station in Austin, TX promotes a concept similar to this. Their idea of paying it forward is it be a blessing to someone while you are in the drive thru at a fast food restaurant. As you pull up to the window to pay for your food, you let the cashier know that you are paying the person’s tab behind you and you also leave them a message of encouragement. I’ve tried this several times and each time it makes me feel better that I could help brighten someone else’s day. Matthew 5:16 says “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. “ We should let our light shine and be the difference the world sees. We are the only Bible that some people will ever see and we should be the example of who Christ is. Christ was our perfect example of what a servant is, He helped many in His path no matter who they were. Servanthood is a part of evangelism.
When we are lacking financially or materially, we tend to focus on what we don’t have, and our prayers can usually veer towards asking God to sends us a miracle or to send someone in our path to help us during this time. It’s ok to ask for what you have need of, but in the meantime focus on what you are able to do for someone else. That in itself is a blessing, and God will honor it. Through your good works you too can become blessed.
Be creative! Your good works don’t have to always be financial contributions. A simple text of encouragement, helping a single mother with her children, or spending time with the elderly is good work! This week, and going forward throughout the year, I encourage you to Pay it Forward to three people and encourage them to do the same.

By What Authority
Ephesians 3:20 “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,”
Have you ever had a season in your life when you had questions for God like why am I in this place? I'm not talking about a physical or geographical location. In this place in relation to Him. The external conditions prompted introspection. A yearning that has been being fanned by the lessons our Apostle and pastor have been teaching began to grow until I began to become frustrated. I was experiencing these emotions.
It amazing how we come to the place of worship and not be slain by the Glory of God, and not desire to bask in the ambiance of his majesty. The Queen of Sheba, when she encountered the glory of Solomon, was left breathless and proclaimed the half has never been told. Even in the dedication of the temple that Solomon built, the priests could not stand to minister because of the glory of the Lord that had filled the house of God. We would rather have drama than God. If I want drama I turn on the tv. Then after about an hour of that and my emotions getting all worked up, I turn the tv off and settle into reality. We're not built for constant drama or the roller coaster effect.
God has deposited so much in us, and entrusted so much to us yet we live beneath what God has for us. By what authority do you live? Are you activating the keys to exceeding abundance? In the Old Testament Moses has a rod, David had smooth stones, Gideon had trumpets, lamps and pitchers and the widow had the cruse of oil. They used them in their divinely designed purposes. We have prayer, The Word, fasting, and fellowship. Are we using them in their divinely designed purposes to get the results that we want from God?
I challenge you to seek God for a deeper relationship with Him. To sell out. Use your keys. The disciples were given authority, but didn't use it properly. When they asked why they were not able to get results, Jesus said “you didn't activate the authority (anointing) within.” How do I do that? By using faith. Are you actively using your tools? By what authority do you live?
