A Note from Mrs. Lee
Dear Parents,
We've had a busy week! Teachers and students have been learning, collecting data, and building relationships. We also want to thank those that came to McDonald's Spirit Night last Friday. It was a great night for children to see friends and teachers outside of school to eat and play. Thanks to PTA for putting this together!
We are excited to announce that Green Star School is coming to Skaggs! No surprise, but we had a parent step up to lead our school, immediately. We thank Jainik Shah for taking this initiative to help the school team in fostering children and adults to respect our environment and natural resources. We ask all of you for your support in achieving another realm of excellence at Skaggs. We strive for excellence in many areas including academics, character building, and multiple disciplines. This year, we want to widen the developments even further, and taking care of the world we live in is a critical piece. More information will be coming soon. We appreciate you in advance for your commitment in raising our children in becoming responsible citizens. www.plano.gov/greenschoolprogram

Fire Prevention
“Not every hero wears a cape. Plan and Practice your Escape!”
This year’s FPW campaign, “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!” works to educate everyone about the small but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.
Did you know?
In a typical home fire, you may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Escape planning and practice can help you make the most of the time you have, giving everyone enough time to get out.
Plan ahead for your escape. Make your home escape plan and practice today.
Important Dates:
· October 6th-12th: National Fire Prevention Week
· Wednesday, October 9th: Fire Prevention posters are due to campuses
· Tuesday, October 15th: Grand Prize winning posters must be delivered to the Admin building
· Wednesday, October 30th: am citywide Awards Assembly at the City Council Chambers, downtown Plano (Building winners will not be recognized at this awards ceremony. The fire department will notify the city winners and their teachers and invite them to the awards ceremony.
Nurses Corner
With the start of a new school year, it is best to remind all parents and student of the general guidelines for keeping the school healthy and when to keep your students home.
When do I keep my child at home?
Many parents are unsure when to keep a child at home with an illness. Please keep your child home if they have any of the following symptoms:
- A temperature of 100.0 degrees or more in the previous 24 hours (please keep your child home until they have been fever-free for 24 hours to avoid spread of infection).
- Diarrhea or vomiting in the previous 24 hours (please keep your child home until symptom-free for 24 hours).
- If your child wakes up with one or both eyes that are red or pink, oozing green or yellow fluid or has matter stuck to the eyelids, please keep your child home and call your Doctor. Your child may have pink eye (conjunctivitis) which is EXTREMELY contagious until they have had 24 hours of prescription eye drops.
- If your child has a moist cough that is difficult to control with over-the counter medications, or your child is coughing up green or yellow sputum, please keep your child home and check with your Doctor.
