LIBRARY FINE FORGIVENESS

The library is accepting items for Town and Country Animal Shelter in place of library fines until February 21. Items such as pet food, gently used towels or blankets, and Clorox wipes are accepted. For each item donated, $1 will be deducted from overdue library fines. Stop in the library if you have questions.

SPRING SPORT ATHLETES - BLUE CARD NOTICE

The athletic office will begin handing out blue cards for spring sport athletes on Tuesday, February 18th. All students intending to participate in a sport must acquire a blue card and give it to his/her coach on or before the first day of tryouts (Monday, March 2nd). The blue card shows your coach that you have meet all the requirements for participation and that you are eligible to participate. You will NOT be able to participate in practice/tryouts without the blue card.

To receive a blue card the following items must be completed:

  1. A current physical on file in the athletic office.
  2. Permission to treat form on file.
  3. Parents and students have signed the online consent and handbook forms (completed via student verification for both student and parent).
  4. Purchased an Activity Ticket from the athletic office ($70.00).
  5. Have passed 4 classes in the previous semester.

See Mrs. Medeck in the athletic office with any questions.

BLACK HOLE T-SHIRTS AVAILABLE

The Athletic Office has some extra Black Hole t-shirts that we will be selling for $10. There are a limited number and will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. If you’re interested in purchasing one, please bring your $10 to the Athletic Office.

SUMMER PE 2020

Summer PE 2020 registration will begin on Monday, February 17th, 2020 and will be open until Friday, February 28th, 2020. Late registrations will NOT be accepted. Intro to PE & Health and Indoor/Outdoor PE will be offered again this summer. Class size will be capped at 30 students. A baseball informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Coach Glover’s room beginning at 3:35. Blue cards, practice info, equipment needs & questions will be answered about the upcoming season. First practice is Monday, March 2nd. Questions see Coach Lynam or another baseball coach.

CORNHUSKER GIRLS STATE

Cornhusker Girls State will be held in Lincoln from May 31 - June 6. Girls State is open to current juniors and are selected based on their leadership skills, school involvement, and their scholastic abilities. The objective of Girls State is to educate the participants about the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities in a democracy. Delegates will achieve a greater understanding of how our government functions, both on the municipal and state levels. Applications are available in the Career Ed Center and will need to be turned in by February 20.

CORNHUSKER BOYS STATE

The purpose of the Boys State program is to educate youth in the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of American citizenship. This is accomplished through the creation of an imaginary 51st state which is then governed by the citizens of Boys State. At the end of Boys State, two delegates are chosen to represent Nebraska at the American Legion Boys Nation program in Washington D.C. During Boys Nation, they will create and debate laws, visit the US Capitol, meet the Nebraska Senators, and visit other historic places. Most delegates have had the opportunity to visit the White House and meet the President of the United States.

Cornhusker Boys State will be held May 31- June 6, 2020 on the University of Nebraska Lincoln campus. Boys who have been a member of the junior class for the 2019-2020 school year is eligible for Boys State. Applications are available in Guidance and Career Ed. They are due by February 20.

AMERICAN LEGION JUNIOR LAW CADET PROGRAM

The American Legion Junior Law Cadet Program will be held June 22-25, 2020 at the Nebraska State Patrol Training Academy in Grand Island, NE. This program is open to current Junior girls and boys. Participants will be selected by competitive evaluation based on interest, citizenship, evidence of self-discipline, and the ability to share their knowledge with others. Completed applications and an endorsement from your school principal or superintendent must be submitted to the Guidance office by February 20. Applications are available in Guidance and Career Ed.

2020 BBB HIGH SCHOOL VIDEO CONTEST

This competition provides an opportunity for high school students to creatively learn the values of BBB - trust, honesty, reliability and objectiveness – helping them discover how these ideals can be applied in their everyday lives. Contestants will gain valuable marketing experience because they are also challenged to get the most views on the contest’s website by promoting their video that will be posted on:

1. bbbvideocontest.org/omaha-swiowa for all high school students who reside in Metro Omaha and in Southwest Iowa

2. bbbvideocontest.org/lincoln-greaterne for all high school students who reside in Metro Lincoln and in Greater Nebraska

Students may enter individually or form teams of two to four people. First and second place prizes will be awarded in both Metro Omaha/Southwest Iowa and in Metro Lincoln/Greater Nebraska. Five hundred dollars cash will be given to the creator(s) of the winning videos, and a $2,000 donation of video equipment will be given to their schools. In addition, $250 cash will be awarded to the second place videos, and $1,000 for video equipment will be given to their schools. Winners will be determined by how well the entry adheres to BBB’s brand, expresses the theme "Start With Trust” or “Ask BBB,” the quality of the video’s production and how many times it’s been viewed on bbbvideocontest.org. BBB will accept entries from Monday, February 3, 2020 – Friday, February 28, 2020. The winners will be announced on Friday, March 13, 2020.

SCC CAREERS IN TRANSPORTATION DAY

The transportation industry has a variety of in demand, high impact, and
technology driven careers. SCC's Careers in Transportation Day will give students
hands-on opportunities to explore several transportation related career fields.

Participants will learn from industry leaders and SCC instructors and will
work alongside current SCC students. This is also the perfect opportunity
to see SCC's new Crete Carrier Diesel Technology and Welding Center!

Participants will select career interest areas and have
the opportunity to participate in hands-on stations.

JOHN DEERE CAREER DAY

Southeast Community College in Milford is having a John Deere Career Day on Thursday, March 5, 2020. Plains Equipment Group would like to invite students who have a true interest in the John Deere Ag Tech program to join them for the event. Sophomores through seniors are welcome to attend. The career day will include program information and student presentations. Campus tours will also be available. BIG RED SUMMER ACADEMIC CAMPS

Big Red Summer Academic Camps are college and career exploration camps designed for students who will be in grades 10-12 for the 2020-2021 school year. These are residential camps. Housing and food will be provided for all participants throughout the duration of the camp. Limited scholarships are available. Career exploration areas offered this summer include: Agriculture & Natural Resources, Animation, Digital Media, Engineering, Film making, Talent in Startups, Teaching, Unicameral Youth Legislature, and Veterinary Science.
