Seneca Valley Virus: What you Need to Know
The Nebraska Department of Agriculture has asked us to share information with our 4-H Families about the Seneca Valley Virus (SVV) that affects pigs.
SVV has similar symptoms to Foot and Mouth Disease, so a test is needed to distinguish what it is. The tests are FREE from the state and MUST be reported to the Nebraska Department of Agriculture.
There have been reported cases of SVV in Nebraska—so we are asking our producers to take extra precaution with their monitoring efforts of this disease. Especially with fair time right around the corner, please be mindful of this and do not transport pigs if lesions are present.
For more information, visit: http://www.pork.org/checkoff-reports/connections-count-keith-schoettmer-reaches-beyond-the-farm-gate-to-build-consumer-trust/need-know-seneca-valley-virus/ OR http://www.swinehealth.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Seneca-Valley-virus-SVV-also-known-as-Senecavirus-A.pdf OR you can call 800-456-7675.
