PD Prep for 1/15

Prior to Friday's PD, be sure to have reviewed ISTEP data, report card information, Achieve, NWEA to be prepared for discussion in PLCs. We will also take a look at PARCC-like questions as we continue to focus in PLCs on next steps.

As you look at your data, consider questions such as:
  • In what areas did your students demonstrate success?
  • In what areas were your students less successful?
  • What areas that your students did well do you feel confident to share strategies with others?
  • What areas do you feel you need assistance?
  • Are there areas that as a staff we need to focus vs. individual work?
  • What trends do you see with current 2015-16 data?
  • What have you done differently this year compared to last year instructionally, if anything? Do you feel this is having an impact?
  • **What other questions might you be able to share with your FCI colleagues?

Regarding report card review:

  • Review bullet points from Dr. Loane's email with subject line of 5-6 Report Card Update and Usage
  • What are you general thoughts about the report card?
  • Do you have any suggestions for revisions related to the Personal Behavior/Work Habit work sessions after using this section for this school year?
  • How can Science and Social Studies be streamlined vertically between 5th to 6th grade?

HSE website

Have you checked out the updates on the district website? Take a moment to check on the updated information to keep you and students' parents in the know...you may find the ACADEMICS tab especially informative as it may answer some question you may have about various district programs. http://www.hse.k12.in.us/ADM/home.aspx

NWEA reminders

  • All students must have NWEA assessments completed by 1/20.
  • Please let Jessica and Jaime know when your classes have finished so they may begin reviewing students data as soon as possible for RtI purposes.
  • Student Progress Reports must be emailed to parents by 1/29.

Child Find Process

Be sure you are familiar with the CHILD FIND information which will be shared with parents again in the new Falcon Flyer:

What to do if you suspect a disability/Child Find:

If your child is age 2 ½ through 21, attends any school within the Hamilton Southeastern Schools boundaries or you live in our community, and you suspect your child may have a disability, you should contact us for more information.

  • For children at least two and a half years of age, but not yet age-eligible for kindergarten, you should contact the Early Childhood Assessment Team at Brooks School Elementary School, 915-4250.
  • For students who are eligible for kindergarten through age 21, you should contact your child’s teacher, school counselor or building administrator to discuss your concerns and explore the steps to be taken. If your child is not enrolled in public school, you should contact the counselor or building administrator in the building your child would attend if enrolled.

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)

RtI is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matched to student needs, and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.

HSE Teaching and Learning...

Welcome back, HSE! We hope your first week of New Year was a good one.

This semester, as we head into the spring election, is an exciting and important time for Hamilton Southeastern Schools. For the next few weeks, we want to spend some time thinking and writing about how to support HSE Schools. Before May 4, odds are good you are going to be asked your thoughts about our schools, and our hope is that our blog entries might help you prepare for important conversations.

We took Einstein’s words to heart and challenged ourselves to write a Thirty-Second Elevator Pitch in support of our schools. This week, Jan and I make the first attempts. I write about the Big Picture, and Jan encourages bold steps forward.

Have a great week, HSE.
