Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!

Derecho - A new vocabulary word for all of us.
The timing of this most recent storm has been most peculiar. With only a week before the start of our school year, the damage and power outage has been very troublesome. I hope that damage to your homes and property have been minimal. I am thankful that I have not heard of anyone being seriously injured from the storm.
At FES, the storm upended one air conditioner unit, created multiple tears in the roof liner which led to some water leaks in the building, knocked over a tree, and a few roof caps flew away. At RBMS, a few windows were broken and roof tears created more problems from leaks within the building. I am grateful for the custodial staff and volunteers who have worked this past week to still get our buildings ready to reopen.
As of writing this, the district office and the high school have had power restored, but the the middle school and elementary school have not. However, with anticipation that power will be restored later today, we are still on pace for our current timeline to reopen. Please keep in mind that may still change later today or this weekend as we assess our technology and Internet needs.
We have come to find out over the past several months that our best laid plans continually must be adjusted. Too many new variables continue to pop up. Whatever those are, we will continue to do the work that is needed for our students. I appreciate your patience and support.

Kindergarten Orientation Letter to Parents
Kindergarten Parents:
Kindergarten Orientation will take place on Wednesday, August 19th from 8:00-1:00 and 4:00-7:00. Parents and Kindergarten students will report to the school office for check-in prior to entering the building and meeting with the teacher in the classroom. In order to minimize the number of visitors to the building, Kindergarten Orientation is limited to parents and respective Kindergarten students only. All visitors are required to wear a face covering (mask, bandana, gaiter) and will have their temperature taken before they are able to enter the building. Please bring all school supplies with you when you meet with the teacher. This allows the students to feel a bit more settled and organized as they enter the classroom for the first day of school.
Teachers will provide information about in-person and remote learning. They will provide packets of information for you to take home. Due to the pandemic, we will be making individual appointments for families to meet with the teacher. Visits will be approximately 30 minutes each. Parents will need to use the link below to schedule an appointment time. Please include your students name and the parents name.
All questions are encouraged and welcome! Our goal is for your Kindergarten experience to be exciting and rewarding. We look forward to meeting with you on August 19th.
Sincerely,
(Click any teacher name above to sign up for a Kindergarten Orientation appointment).
