Triton Times
Eastlake Middle School 5.13.19
We are getting closer and closer to the end of the year. Let's keep our kids motivated! We are about to wrap up CAASPP testing along with make-ups. We have a lot going on, so let's get to it...
A. 8th Grade Awards Night. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15th at 6:00 PM. Students receiving awards should have been notified by mail. If you have questions, please contact the counselors.
B. Big Events! We have events going on all next week.
Tuesday, May 14th - Spring Choir Concert (6:00 PM Pavilion)
Wednesday, May 15th - 8th Grade Awards (6:00 PM Pavilion)
Thursday, May 16th - Band Performance (6:00 PM Pavilion) and DLI Recognition (off-campus)
Friday, May 17th - Triton of the Week Luncheon (1:00 PM in the Pavilion)
C. Coffee/Pizza with the Principal. The PTSO will be holding its last fundraiser of the year on May 13th at Blaze Pizza (see flyer below... please print and bring). Please stop by for some pizza. I will be there as well to address any questions or concerns you might have. We will then have our last Coffee with the Principal on Tuesday the 14th at 8:30 AM in the library as well as the formal PTSO meeting at 6:00 PM in the library.
D. Student Behavior. As we get to the end of the school year, students tend to challenge boundaries. Let's work together to keep our students safe and focused on the ending the school year on a good note. 8th graders can be withheld from school events including promotion and the school picnic if serious discipline issues arise.
E. Library. Starting May 23rd, the library will be closed after school.
F. Promotion. Due to lack of credit recovery opportunities, for this year the Board will allow for a validation process whereas students who pass their second semester classes will receive credit for any past classes in that subject area(s) in which they did not pass. They will be allowed to participate in this year's ceremony. It's a great opportunity for our 8th grade students to buckle down and keep moving forward. We do not know the process for next year's class. I do have the right to review case by case situations that are unique. Please contact me with any concerns. (SEE FLYER BELOW)
We will have several meetings from now until June 5th about promotion. Our promotion will take place on June 5th at 5:00 PM at Otay Ranch High School. Attendance is limited by fire code and expect that each family will receive five tickets to the event. There will be a streaming video of the event. We are creating a special drop-off spot for ride share to the front of Otay Ranch High School.
There will also be several 8th grade events at the end of the year and school will still be open to 8th graders on the 6th and 7th. Be on the lookout for material being sent home. They will receive their promotion packets on June 4th which will contain tickets, maps and instructions for the day. We will also have it posted on our website before May 24th.
G. Recognition. If you have a moment, please recognize our awesome teachers with the link below.
H. Student Concern? If you feel that your student might be a victim of bullying or your student knows of another student being bullied, please use this LINK to report your concerns and we will follow up.
We are lucky to have amazing parents and guardians at ELM. Keep shining and let us know what we can do to support your student.
