Principal Message

Greetings, Ride Families!

This week was National Read Across America Week and Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2nd. Needless to say, it was a wonderful week focusing on one of our favorite activities, reading!!! The second graders put on an incredible program based on the book Peanut Butter & Cupcake by Terry Border. WE ended the week with a visit from Dr. Null, CISD Superintendent, and a school board member, Stacy who gave an eloquent presentation of The Ambassador Award to a deserving teacher, student, and staff member who has gone above and beyond on a daily basis to be the best they can be, make a difference, and helpful to others (to mention a few attributes). Of course, there are so many incredible teachers, exceptional students and outstanding support staff at Ride to choose from. However, we chose these three very special Challengers to highlight this year.

J. Ashmore is our wonderful art teacher. She has ingeniously combined teaching the history of famous artists and her art curriculum to make art not only a learning experience, and fun, but you get to bring home an incredible piece of art based on a famous artist. The pictures below are samples of different grade levels who were working on Andy Warhol. And now, the classes are working on Henri Matisse (pic above). Ask your kids to tell you more about it. Oh, and if anyone would like to hand their child’s artwork in the school, we would love to have one of each style to display.

K. Ellis is a 4th grade student at Sally K. Ride. He is a well-rounded, kind, and respectful kid who strives to work hard every day. He has attended Ride since Kindergarten and very year he exhibited these exceptional student qualities. We are very proud of you and wanted you to know how much we appreciate your hard work.

M. Cymbala is our incredible secretary. She became the secretary of Sally K. Ride at a very difficult time when we were maneuvering COVID and the day to day operations of reopening. She works hard to always make sure the teachers are taken care of and we have every thing we need to be the best we can be. We appreciate you very much!!

As we approach the last week before Spring Break, the teachers have made some special plans for the kids. Second and third grade will attend field trips, and (K-4) students, will attend the annual play at College Park High School. This year is Junie B. Jones.

Spring Break is March 13th thru March 20th. School resumes on March 21st for students.

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Megan Burnham

Ride Through The Decades

The 2023 Ride through the Decades Spring Carnival planning committee is looking for silent auction items. If you own a business and would like to donate we would love to help promote your business. 100% of the funds raised through the silent auction go directly to the PTO, which then go directly into the school.

PTO funds various school functions including field trips, math and reading tutoring, teacher support, professional development, substitute pay, computer programs/licenses, technology, reading incentive programs, playground equipment and repairs, copy paper, school beautification and so much more. All funds the PTO raises goes towards enhancing each child's education at Sally K. Ride.

Lunch Sign-Up

Due to limited seating in the cafeteria, we are offering two options for lunch signups. You will have the opportunity to sign up to eat in the cafeteria with your child or outside in our gazebo/picnic table area. You will not be able to change locations after signup is complete. If you sign up to eat outside and it rains, you will be unable to move into the building due to limited seating. You may sign up for another day/time.

Each slot is available for two adults and the child you are eating lunch with..

Please see the schedule below for designated grade level lunch visitor’s days. Make sure that you sign up under the correct time slot for your child’s lunchtime. Each student may have a lunch visitor once every 3.5-week period. This ensures every parent has an opportunity to sign up. Remember to bring a valid id when you visit the building.

Due to limited seating in the cafeteria, we are asking all parents with small children to eat outside in the gazebo area.
