FAC Weekly Update
October 21, 2022
Good Afternoon, FAC Family
We hope you had a wonderful week! This week marked the start of the second quarter of the school year. Our new students have settled in, while our seniors are busy preparing their college application and pre-screening videos. It is inspiring to see our young artists progress, working either in groups or as individuals. We remind our students that the artist is their own harshest critic; it is important for us to be honest with ourselves about our performance level, while giving ourselves grace and reminding ourselves how far we have come.
Here’s the latest from the halls of the FAC…
This Week's Student Leadership Lesson
The Leader Who Motivates
Average leaders direct their people.
Good leaders direct and explain to their people.
Excellent leaders direct, explain, and demonstrate to their people.
Great leaders direct, explain, demonstrate to, and inspire their people.
The leader who motivates...
1. Is self motivated.2. Should motivate others with the right motive.
- Manipulation is moving people for personal advantage.
- Motivation is moving people for mutual advantage.
Motivational Questions
- Do I only motivate people who can help me?
- Do I only motivate people when I am in a leadership assignment?
- Do I motivate others by using leverage or guilt?
- Do I unconditionally love others if they do not respond to my motivation?
Leaders should motivate people out of their comfort zone, not out of their gift zone.
Last Chance for Tickets to Mike Stern - Live at the FAC
Join us for an unforgettable evening of music with guitar legend Mike Stern and his band. One of the great jazz guitarists of his generation, Mike Stern has the unique ability to play with the finesse and lyricism of Jim Hall, the driving swing of Wes Montgomery, and the turbulent, overdriven attack of Jimi Hendrix. A player of remarkable facility whose searing lines are informed mainly by bebop and the blues while also carrying a rock-tinged intensity, Stern made his mark with Miles Davis in the early ‘80s before launching his solo career in 1985. Since then he has released 18 recordings as a leader, six of which were nominated for GRAMMY® Awards. Stern was presented with Guitar Player magazine’s Certified Legend Award on January 21, 2012.
Performing with Mike will be an all-star group comprised of his wife, Leni, on guitar; Moto Fukushima (from House Of Waters) on bass; Danny Walsh on Saxophone; and Juan Chiavassa on drums.

- Dr. Katy Cassell will be presenting a session titled, "Adaptation: How Leaders Can Harness the Artist's Superpower"
- Mr. Vee Popat will be presenting a session alongside fellow participants in the "Arts and Cultural Leadership Certificate Program."
Funding for this professional development experience is made possible through a grant from the ABC (Arts in Basic Curriculum) Initiative. The Fine Arts Center is an ABC Certified School, earning a rating of distinction from the organization.
