Highlights From Last Week....

Our first week of kindergarten was great! We have already learned a lot! Our main focus was to learn how to behave like a kindergartener, but we also learned how to read by looking at the pictures in the book! In Math, we learned to look for things that were exactly alike and how to turn and talk to our neighbor! We started stations in both Math and Literacy. We learned the letter t. We also focused on our names this week. We bingo dobbed our names and made Chicka trees with our names. We are sure your children were exhausted when they got home, we know we were!

A peek at our learning this week...

This week we will be very busy!

In Reader's Workshop, we will learn what Reader's Workshop is and what it will look like in our classroom. We will also look at the different ways to read. We will practice retelling stories that were read to us by looking at the picture.

In Writer's workshop, we will learn the parts of Writer's Workshop and what it means to be a writer.

In Math, we will work on classifying items based on their attributes. We will answer questions like, why do things look different and how are they the same? We will also be learning what a number looks like and attach a quantity to the number.

In Fundations, we will be practicing letters and sounds for the letters t, b and f. We will be learning the sight words "can" and "like", please practice these words at home.

In Social Studies, we will learn about friendship and learn ways to become good friends ourselves!

An enormous THANK YOU for those of you that donated the supplies for the classroom, it was a HUGE help! Thank you!!!!

Book Orders:

I will be placing the book orders September 15th. Please either return your orders to me or order online. Thank you for supporting our classroom!

Reading at Home:

Great job working with your child on their reading! The more you read, the better their vocabulary will be and the more they will be able to understand stories! Keep up the great work!!

Pete and Mystery Can started their journeys home this week. The kids LOVE hearing the clues and reading about Pete's adventures. The children are practicing their speaking and listening skills through these activities. It is so much fun! Thank you for your participation.

Picture Day is this Thursday!! Forms went home with your child last week.

If you would like to volunteer in my classroom, please let me know! I could use all the extra hands!!! Thank you!

I have attached a video of our week below.

Thank you for all that you do!!! Keep up the great work!!

Notes from Ms. Driscoll

Wow! What a great first week of school. We learned the letter T and began Math Module 1. Students explored the classroom and got to know their new classmates. I'm very excited for our second week.

In school:

This week we have gym on Monday, please be sure your child wears or brings sneakers. In class we will continue with Eureka Math Module 1. Math papers are sent home daily, check in with your child and see what they learned! We will be continuing to introduce Readers and Writers Workshop. We will be learning letter b this week. Our class will also be practicing our routines and continuing to build our classroom community!

At home:

Please continue to read with or to your child daily when possible! This is a great way to introduce new vocabulary and help them develop better comprehension skills.

As we settle into the school year it is always great to have help! If you are available to help in the classroom, please call or email me. I can always use help with copying, pulling math pages out or small group help with the children. Beginning in October I want to begin having Mystery Readers come to our classroom! This is always exciting because parents, friends, and families can surprise their children by coming to read to our class. If you wish to be a volunteer or mystery reader please call or email me. A CORI form will need to be filled out.

Wish List:

A very big thank you to everyone who was able to bring in supplies. If you are able to contribute to our wish list our class can always use tissues, Clorox wipes, ziplock bags (all sizes), and glue sticks.

As always, thank you for all that you do and please contact me if you have any questions!

Notes from Mrs. Potter

It was such an exciting week getting to know our new classmates and friends! We spent a lot of time doing activities to help the students get to know each other, as well as learning our classroom rules and routines! We have a very excited group of learners who loved starting math and literacy stations, as well as learning what it means to be a reader and a writer!

As a reminder, our class photos will be posted on the ACES Kindergarten Facebook page on Wednesdays. Due to some technical difficulties, our first post will be on the 13th. Here are some of the photos that didn't quite make it on the page this week :)

A big thanks to everyone who has sent in donations to our classroom! :) If you are interested in volunteering, please let me know!

What a great beginning to our school year!

This Thursday is PICTURE DAY! Please send in envelopes that were sent home on Friday.

This week we made a class book. " I Love My School Shoes!". It will be shared with families soon. Read the story together with your child. If you would like to add to our story or comment, I added extra pages in the back of the book. We will share these when the book is brought back.

Our Scholastic book order is due Thursday, September 14th. You can order on line at scholastic by using the class room code. You can find that at the top of the letter and on front of book order form. If you would like me to order, send back the flyer with a check made out to scholastic and I will be happy to do that for you. This is a great way to have wonderful books at home that are inexpensive.

Reminders: Monday is Library.

Tuesday is Gym. (wear sneakers)

Wednesday is Art.

Thursday is Guidance.

Friday is Music.

Volunteers: I love to have help. Photo coping, cutting out things, putting books together, sitting and listening to students letter naming, counting numbers and a lot more. If you are interested , please fill out a Cori form with the front office and let me know. Some things I can send home and you send back.

Thank you to the families that have helped with classroom supplies. It is a huge help!

Notes from Mrs. Marcoux

What a wonderful start to our kindergarten year! It was a pleasure to get to know the new students and their families.

I would like to thank all the families for the generous classroom supply donations! We will be using it all throughout the year and I can't thank you enough.

It has been a very busy week for us, I'm sure your little ones have been coming home exhausted (I know I have been!). This week the children were introduced not only to one another, but also to Math, Writers Workshop (we wrote our first stories this week) as well as Readers Workshop and Fundations. This past week the students learned all about the letter T and the sound it makes. This coming week, we will be introducing the letter B.

Just a reminder that picture day is on Thursday. The forms went home with your students on Friday in their folders.

Thank you for reading with your child as much as possible. The children get so excited not only when they hear a new story that they love, but a familiar story as well.

As always, if I can be of assistance, please contact me at

Have a great week!

Mrs. Marcoux
