Academic Excellence

Spring Semester Final Exam Exemptions

Semester exams account for 1/7 of the semester grade for a course.

A student may be exempted from taking a SPRING SEMESTER final examination in a course if s/he meets all the following criteria. The student has:

1. not been suspended (ISS, OSS, or DAEP) during the spring semester

2. a 90% or higher average in the course and no more than three absences

3. an 80% or higher average in the course and no more than two absences

A student is not counted absent when participating in extra-curricular activities or during a documented health care appointment.

Junior and Senior students are allowed two college visit days per school year. College visit days will not count against juniors or seniors for the purpose of qualifying for exam exemptions.

A student who takes an Advanced Placement Exam for a course they are enrolled in during the Spring Semester is exempt from the semester exam in that course, providing the student has an average of 75 or higher, has no more than 3 absences during the 2nd semester and has met #1 above.

I Made It Wall

It is only January and we have given out 68 shirts that represent our Rangers Riding On to post secondary education. Last year we only had 75 students on the wall. We are so proud of each of you! Students who receive post secondary acceptance letters, please bring them to the counseling office so that we may celebrate with you, put your star on the wall, and give you a shirt!!

Student Council Building a Legacy

For one of their community projects, STUCO designed these shirts to be given to our feeder schools for incentives for Future Rangers! We are getting our younger Rangers excited about Chisholm Trail High School and building our pride in our Ranger Community. These shirts are awesome!!!

Spring Semester/Ranger Review Time

We are now in the spring semester of 2016. Our Class of 2016 is very close to graduation!! Students have 50 minutes each day to eat lunch, attend tutorials, attend clubs and organizations, and participate in UIL/AP practice. Please encourage your child to get homework completed during this time and study for future learning. This is a great opportunity where students can attend study groups and their teachers or another teacher's classroom for extra practice. Feb 26 is a half day and the end of the 4th Six Weeks. Continue to check your child's learning progress in Family Access to stay current. Any questions you have, please contact your child's teacher or the front office so that we may assist you.

Senior Information

This is the latest information concerning seniors.

Senior Class of 2016:

Attached are some reminders and new information about graduation this year.

Senior Picture- must be taken for our yearbook. You do not have to purchase a senior picture to be in the yearbook. Please see Rhonda Dickens our yearbook sponsor for more information. January 7 will be the last day to take your picture on campus. Please see Mrs. Dickens for reservation information

Cap and Gown-must be ordered (Even if no announcements are ordered). Our Chisholm Trail purple is distinct and must be ordered through Herff Jones. If you wait to order, the cost will go up. These will be delivered prior to practice time, sometime in May.

If you are ordering cap, gown and gold stole only, the cost is now $49. 95 plus tax for a total of $60.00 (Remember, the longer you wait to order, the more the cost). The cost of your cap and gown will increase again after spring break. It will increase again in April and May.

Please make sure you have an order form for your cap and gown order.

Graduation will be held on June 5th 2016, 8:00 PM at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

You can contact Herff Jones at 817-244-4645 or visit the website and make an online order at www.hjtexan.com

Class Picture and Mandatory Practice

1. We will take our senior class picture on May 31. All seniors must have their cap, gown and stole to be in the picture.

2. Graduation practice will be held at Chisholm Trail High School on June 1st at 9:05 AM. [Dress rehearsal. ALL STUDENTS NEED TO HAVE CAP AND GOWNS ON!!!]. This is a mandatory practice.

Please be aware that the dress code for graduation will be strictly enforced.

Young ladies are required to wear a dress (no strapless or backless) or black dress pants and black shoes under CTHS purple robes.

Young men are required to wear black or very dark slacks with black shoes under CTHS robes. Long sleeve dress shirts with ties are traditionally worn.

All shoes worn must be black – no flip flops or sneakers.

There is a check –in process at graduation for dress code to assure that these guidelines are followed. This is a very important day for you and your family.

Mortar Board (top of cap) - It is best to not decorate your cap but if you want to decorate here are the rules-

…The decoration must be flat and in the center of the cap, no lights, nothing on the rim, no feathers, no boas, must use appropriate language, must be flat…You can put your future college on it…We must be able to see purple- all approvals go through Mrs. Dye.

Prom is May 14 at the Texas Motor Speedway. The price is now $85.00. Please go to the House principal office by the cafeteria for more information.

Here are the dates for the SAT and ACT tests. You must go online and register for these tests. Please see your Counselor or visit the College and Career Center during your lunch to get assistance on how to register.

There is also a fee. SAT costs $54.50 and ACT costs $56.50. There are fee waivers. Go to collegeboard.org to learn about the SAT and ACT.

Here are most of the SAT and ACT dates:

Ø October 24 ACT

Ø November 7 SAT

Ø December 12 ACT

Ø January 23 SAT

Ø February 6 ACT

Ø March 5 SAT

Ø April 9 ACT

Ø May 7 SAT

Collegeboard.org and actstudent.org has all of the exact dates for these tests.

There are many scholarships available. Please visit the counselor’s website on the CTHS website

Attendance is more important than ever. Please be very aware of your attendance. In case the 90% attendance rule is broken and exceeded, you will need to turn in a waiver request and meet with the attendance committee to determine eligibility and completion of hours. Seniors who remain out of attendance compliance, will not receive class credit and therefore will not graduate and walk the stage. This is a TEA state ruling. Senior must be in attendance for the full semester/year.

Senior Night After Graduation- SNAG is a parent sponsored event that takes place the night of graduation.

They are looking for many parents to participate in this worthwhile endeavor to keep our seniors safe on graduation night. It is paid for through parent fundraising

If you have questions regarding graduation please contact Susan Dye 817-232-7112 ext. 7023
