Classroom Spotlight!
Mrs. Arditti's Fourth Grade!
What a year!
Students in 4A have been working hard this year. They have written amazing literary essays, read historical fiction books, tested magnetism of different objects and learned all about fractions!
Math
Mrs. Arditti’s class just started learning about geometry, angles and lines. They practiced by making collages and sorting vocabulary terms. Our favorite way to learn about math is in small group rotations. When we work in centers; one group meets with the teacher for a lesson, another group completes online math practice and the last group plays a game. Our favorite game is Kaboom! It’s an awesome way to practice our math facts in a fast paced and competitive way! Definitely ask us how to play!
Language Arts!
In 4A, we are learning all about different authors. We are discussing many different techniques an author might use to make a story interesting and well written. For example, we have learned about foreshadowing and flashback, points of view, symbolism and the importance of setting and empathetic characters. Students use these techniques to post during their own reading. In their book clubs, students are reading different books by the same author. They use their posts to guide their discussion about what is similar and different about their books.
Science!
In Science, we have been learning all about mealworms and darkling beetles. We observed them grow through their stages from mealworm to pupa and from pupa to beetle. We also learned about their environment and how different environmental factors changed the speed at which they went through the life cycle. We have found mealworms to be very interesting!
Social Studies!
In Social Studies, we learned all about immigration. We read about immigrants from countries such as Ireland, Italy and other European countries. We completed research and made suitcases that represented what immigrants may have brought with them on their trip. Finally, we experienced a digital break out! This breakout took us through the whole process of Ellis Island and ended with us earning our passport to America. It was so exciting to experience what immigrants may have gone through.
