Chef Andrew from DVISD Food and Nutrition Services stopped by Collins to cook our students a different take on green beans. They were a hit!
IMPORTANT: NEW DISMISSAL TIME ON FRIDAYS
Due to bus driver shortages and transportation needs associated with Fridays, Del Valle ISD elementary schools will dismiss elementary schools at 2:30 p.m. on Fridays only starting on October 1 and continuing each Friday until further notice. It is estimated that all elementary bus riders will arrive approximately 20 minutes early at their stops on Fridays. This new dismissal time is applicable to ALL students, not just bus riders.
From the Specials Team: PE Classes at Collins
P.E. is well underway!
Students are learning the benefits of exercise and this past month students have worked on mastering their locomotor skills that include jumping, hoping, skipping, galloping, sliding, and leaping. Students have also begun our running program with the New York Road Runners. NYRR's is an organization who promotes running and provides incentives for all students participating. Remember when your child attends P.E. they should wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences for the fall have begun! Teachers are contacting parents to schedule conferences. These conferences will occur on October 8th after early release and after school throughout the month of October. It is our goal to conduct a conference for every student at our campus!
In person conferences on campus will be offered as well as virtual conferences. We are requesting that ONLY parents attend in person conference to reduce the amount of people are teachers are exposed to and to limit the number of visitors on campus. Please do not bring other members of the family. If you would like to request a virtual conference, let your child's teacher know.

Hispanic Heritage Month
This month we will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at Collins by creating a school wide mural!
We are asking all of our families to send in different items to celebrate Hispanic heritage and contribute to our mural. This includes: photos and biographies of hispanic family members, family photos of vacations to Hispanic countries, favorite recipes and artwork that is inspired by the Hispanic culture. We would like everyone to participate in this mural! Please make a copy of photos as we will not be able to return these items.
You can send these items with your child to school or submit them via email to our Parent and Community Liaison, Araceli McBeth: araceli.mcbeth@dvisd.net
Dismissal
Thank you to all our parents for adjusting to our new dismissal line up for car riders. We appreciate you lining up along Apogee Road as Finnial Road and Moonbeam Road (behind the school) remain closed.
Please make sure you have your student's car tag displayed in your dashboard at pickup. If you need an additional car tag, please visit our front office and present your ID to be issued a new one.
- If you are going to change how your child goes home, please communicate this with the front office by 2:00PM
- If you are going to pick your child up from school before dismissal, please pick them up no later than 2:30PM. To ensure the safety of our students and that everyone gets home, we will not pull students from classrooms after 2:30PM.
- Parents are prohibited from pulling a student off the bus at dismissal.
- Students will be released during the school day only to persons listed in Skyward.
