Fifth Grade PEAK
January 9, 12
I thought I would share a post-wedding photo! We enjoyed a beautiful day. This is my immediate family - my husband and kids, new son-in-law, and my parents.
THEME:
- Students finalized notes and made sure they had all the necessary tools to write a feature magazine article - we discussed angles, leads, subtitles, details with depth, conclusions, and how to incorporate an authentic piece of research into their article - interview with an expert, survey, observation, etc.
Centers
Enrichment Centers:
Topic Study: Students met with me individually to discuss Bloom's Level of Thinking. Students took a learning style inventory to determine personal learning style strengths. The topic study menu will no longer drive our learning. Students will determine what level of thinking the project represents and then write their own scoring guide (with guidance). Each student will select a verb to correspond with a level of thinking (apply, analyze, evaluate, create). The project or product will be based on your child's learning style (kinesthetic, visual, written/ oral, logical and mathematical, etc.)Math: Algebra -- students are off to a great start learning and applying algebraic rules.
Science: We are wrapping up our solar unit. Your child will conduct four science experiments prior to our solar contest.
