SEPTEMBER IS SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH - COUNCIL ROCK QPR
How does CR respond when a student expresses that they have thought about hurting themselves or considered suicide?
Council Rock Staff have all been introduced to the QPR process developed by the QPR Institute in Washington. Also, all counselors, social workers, and CARES Coordinators have been trained in utilizing the process. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer. These basic steps can help save a life from suicide. Similar to how people trained in CPR can save a life, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. All staff who become aware of a student needing support will immediately refer the student to a QPR trained Student Services staff member. They follow a prescribed QPR process that ultimately results in notifying the family and providing directions on how to access further assessment and services in the community.
QPR meets the requirements for listing in the National Registry of Evidence-based Practices and Policies (NREPP).

2019 COUNCIL ROCK NORTH FALL FESTIVAL
2019-2020 represents the 50th year for Council Rock North High School. CRN will have events commemorating this milestone throughout the year. To begin, the Class of 2020 is re-inventing the Fall Festival. The rain or shine event will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019, tentatively 9 am to 2 pm.
CRN has invited representatives from local governmental agencies such as Fire, Police, EMS, Township services, and more, requesting each bring a vehicle with which children could interact. North’s teams are being asked to send a small group of players to man tables, offering a small game similar to their sport for the kids to play. CRN uses this event as a fundraiser for its yearly operations and will be offering various foods and beverages.
Perhaps the biggest change to the Fall Festival is you! CRN is looking to organize a Craft Fair for local vendors to share their passions with the community. If you are interested, please contact the Class of 2020 advisor, Dave Diehl or click here for a vendor form. The cost for a space is $50.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be part of CRN's 50th Anniversary party!
GREAT NEWS FROM AROUND THE DISTRICT
NINETEEN CR STUDENTS NAMED NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALISTS
Nineteen CR students have been named Semifinalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. This prestigious distinction is given to those high school students who display outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT. Of the 1.5 million eligible students, roughly 50,000 students with the highest PSAT/NMSQT qualify for recognition in the NMSP. Fewer than 16,000 students — less than one percent of all U.S. high school students — achieved the status of National Merit Semifinalist. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships® worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring.
Council Rock Semifinalists will be publicly honored at upcoming School Board Board Meetings this fall.
