A WORD FROM OUR CEO
Memorial Day is now in the rearview mirror and June is finally here. For many of us, it is graduation season. Whether your preschooler is graduating to kindergarten or your twenty-something year old is graduating from medical school, the sentiment is generally the same - pause and look back with pride on all the accomplishments and look to the future with excitement about all that lies ahead.
As I walked this journey with my soon-to-be high school freshman, I found myself digging deep into my arsenal of business books looking for just the right pearls of wisdom to impart upon her as her big day approaches. What perfect advice could I share with her as she leaves both grade school and her childhood behind? Then it hit me. I was approaching this all wrong and making it way more complicated than it needed to be. My graduate didn’t need advice from a business school professor or the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. She just needed to know that a world of opportunity lies ahead and that she has the privilege, power, and responsibility to make the best choices she can along way.
With all due respect to business professors around world, I actually think Dr. Seuss said it best:
You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
Congratulations to all the graduates out there. May your future be blessed with opportunity and happiness.
Meet Our Team
Each month, we will feature one of our fantastic JURISolutions team members so that you can get to know us a little better! This month, we would like to introduce you to Darlene Sistrunk, a recruiter with JSL's government team.
Q. What do you enjoy most about being a recruiter?
A. I love being able to connect people with opportunities. I think I am successful in this because I have a very fine-tuned “people meter.” I trust my instincts and I listen very carefully to what is said during interviews. When a client depends on me to find the right talent and I come through, it’s an amazing feeling. Similarly, when a candidate is biting their lip with anxiety waiting hear if they got the job and I call to give them good news, it’s an amazing feeling.
Q. As the Lead Recruiter for JSL’s government contracting group, what are the similarities and differences that you see between the government service line and the commercial side of the house—in terms of the types of positions for which you recruit and the professionals you seek out in your recruiting?
A. Clients in both lines of business are looking for the best person for the job – in terms of talent and suitability within their organizational culture. I mainly place paralegals, law clerks and administrative assistants, and needs for these types of roles are just as frequent in the government space as they are on the commercial side of the house.
I try to maintain a vast and viable network of qualified candidates to accommodate our clients' changing needs, and I’m pleased to say that I am almost always successful in meeting these needs time and time again.
Q. As JSL’s government service line continues to grow, are you noticing any 2016 recruiting trends or increased areas of need?
A. I do see a growing need for supporting roles in litigation that extend beyond paralegals, such as litigation support analysts and IT litigation specialists. These roles support the attorneys with both the technical and organizational aspects of litigation, and they work in concert with paralegals and attorneys to help develop trial strategy and manage litigation via analytics and other technology. I expect this area to continue to evolve with advances in technology and am looking forward to seeing what new trends emerge in the coming years.

A big JURISolutions welcome to our newest team member, Andrew Leshak, who joined our team in May.
Andrew has a strong background in sales, beginning his career in the financial/insurance sector and, most recently, working in the creative field licensing photos, videos and other forms of media to corporations and editorial organizations. In joining the JSL Business Development Team, Andrew will focus on applying what he's learned during his tenure as a sales professional to the Legal Services industry, with the goal of bringing in new business and helping to further develop relationships with existing and past clients.
Per Andrew, he is looking forward to: "becoming a part of a team, and becoming a fixture within a great organization rather than just 'some sales guy.' It’s also a great opportunity to continually learn and develop new skills!"
In his spare time, Andrew enjoys basketball and golf, and he is a big time movie/music buff, as well as a 76ers fan. He also enjoys hanging out with his wife, Brooke, and their Boston Terriers, Fallon and Petunia.
Diversity Alliance for Science East Coast Conference 2016
DA4S strives to provide a platform to identify, attract, and develop small and diverse businesses to drive inclusive procurement practices in corporate, academic, and governmental entities within the life science and healthcare industries. Because the conference was limited to only 350 invitees, it was a great opportunity to connect with and build relationships with key stakeholders in these industries. We can't wait for the West Coast Conference next year!
An Insider's Tips to Getting a "Yes!" From the Decision Makers
Attendees learned proven techniques for getting support from decision makers, how to speak the buyer’s language, and much more. Rachel commented, "The program gave thorough insight into how procurement teams work, as well as candid advice to small, diverse businesses about how to navigate the RFx process. Bill did a great job, and I thought his guidance was extremely valuable!"

Darlene Sistrunk is the lead recruiter for JSL's government contracting service line. In her role, she focuses on identifying, vetting and recruiting skilled legal professionals for the company's government clients in D.C. and nationwide. Darlene holds both an MBA and a BA from Rosemont College.

National Cancer Survivors Day
This past Sunday, June 5th was National Cancer Survivors Day - an annual, treasured celebration of life that is held in hundreds of communities nationwide, and around the world, on the first Sunday in June. It is a celebration of those who have survived, an inspiration for those recently diagnosed, a gathering of support for families, and an outreach to the community. On National Cancer Survivors Day, thousands gather across the globe to honor cancer survivors and to show the world that life after a cancer diagnosis can be fruitful, rewarding, and even inspiring.
This day provides an opportunity for all people living with a history of cancer – including America’s 14.5 million cancer survivors – to connect with each other, celebrate milestones, and recognize those who have supported them along the way. It is also a day to draw attention to the ongoing challenges of cancer survivorship in order to promote more resources, research, and survivor-friendly legislation to improve cancer survivors’ quality of life.
