Seton School Newsletter
A Year of Gratitude
May 8, 2020
School closed for the remainder of the school year. Stay tuned to your emails and messages.
From the Principal...
Dear Seton Community,
Thank you to those of you who offered your compliments and suggestions on our virtual learning survey. We are committed to providing you with a quality virtual learning experience. As you know, all schools in the state of Wisconsin are closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Our school year will end on June 9, 2020.
The teachers and I went over all of the second survey feedback. We were happy to find that we are successfully meeting the needs of the majority of our families and students. We will continue with our current practices to provide your children with virtual learning.
Whether your child is in grade one or grade eight, you will need to support his or her learning in a virtual environment. Here are reminders of what we will continue to do moving forward:
We will continue to keep due dates flexible and offer daily “office hours” to answer questions and support you in our partnership to educate your child. If needed, those “office hours” can be via Zoom by request.
We will provide “face-to-face” experiences through Zoom meetings and video lessons where needed.
We will continue to break down directions into easier to understand pieces using video if needed.
We will provide workbooks and printed handouts when appropriate. The school is open for drop off and pick up every Wednesday from 8am to noon.
Teachers have been instructed to follow the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards recommendations for virtual teaching hours: elementary 1-2 hours a day, middle school 2-3 hours a day. Your children will not be online for the regular face-to-face school day hours, and teachers will not be providing full-day lessons. We will evaluate which standards have been completed by June 9 prior to the start of the 2020-21 school year, and begin with what was missed in the fall and with the needs identified through fall assessments. This is a stressful time, and what is most important is the mental health and wellness of your family and of our staff.
Grading information was sent out on Monday via email and Remind and can also be found in the May 1 newsletter. Virtual learning for all students in 4K and kindergarten will end on Friday, May 29 so that individual parent-teacher conferences can be held before the last day of the school year. For all students in grades 1-8, the 2019-2020 school year will end on June 9, 2020.
As deadlines approach, please let me know if you are not able to pay any outstanding 2019-2020 lunch, aftercare, or tuition balances. I know that this is a difficult time for many of our families and there are assistance funds available.
Please stay alert to emails and other announcements from the school and your child's teachers. Information regarding the return of checked out tech devices will be coming soon. If you need assistance, please contact me via email or at 920-234-8756.
We continue to pray for the health and safety of all of our Seton families. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, pray for us.
Sincerely,
Dr. Stephanie Nardi, Principal
From Fr. Matthew...
Dear Seton Catholic School Community,
I hope and pray that each of you are holding up alright within these unique times. This virus has changed our patterns of life in dramatic ways. Who would have ever thought that we would be finishing school in a virtual way? I’ve heard of many of the challenge’s families have been facing, as well as many of the blessings that families have found within this time.
As many of you know, this summer I was asked to take a different assignment. Originally my last day, was scheduled to be June 15th , with the virus, the Archbishop postponed the reassignment date to August 4th. On Monday, the Archbishop officially announced the new priestly assignments. I wanted to let you know that Fr. Mark Brandl has been assigned as the new pastor of our Sheboygan North Catholic Parishes. The first question that Fr. Mark asked me about our parishes was, “how’s the school.” For the last eight years he’s been the pastor of St. Agnes parish in Butler, Wisconsin, and he has had a very close connection to the school.
Fr. Mark and I have known each other since the seminary as we overlapped for five years. You’ll find in him someone who truly has a pastor’s heart, is down to earth, and is very approachable. In terms of my next assignment, I will be part of a four-priest team that will be serving St. John Neumann, St. William, St. Joseph, and St. Mary parishes in Waukesha. My last day in the parishes will be August 2nd.
In terms of staying connected in this time along with the School Facebook page, you can find prayer opportunities and updates on our Sheboygan North Catholic Parishes Facebook page, as well as the Sheboygan North Catholic Faith Formation page, where I’ve been posting videos for children every Tuesday and Thursday.
