What is going on?
A Week of Learning:
Reading: This week, the students are going to continue to work on Read-to-Self strategies. We learned that during Read to Self, it is important to choose books that are just right so we understand our reading and grow as readers. The students will distinguish between real reading and “fake” reading.
Writing: Writing this week will focus on identifying a small moment and expanding that small moment to be a wonderful story. We can do this by adding voice and stretching our moment to including important and exciting details.
Spelling and Grammar: another, cut, food, hurt, made, next, seem, through
This week we will begin learning about verbs: words that show action.
Science: Students will be conducting experiments and demonstrations using sound, heat, and light energy.
Math: We are moving on to measurement! Student will learn what an inch is (just a space!) and how to measure things with a ruler. They will discover how many inches are in a yard and practice estimating measurements.
I am needing two packages of gummy worms- for a measurement activity. Please let me know if you can donate.

We are looking forward to celebrating this special day with our community. As a part of the celebration of our veterans, we are asking grades 2 through 5 to write an essay for Veteran's Day. Essays should respond to the prompt "What does a hero mean to me?"This is OPTIONAL but would be a great at home activity!
Each essay should be approximately one page in length. Essays are due on November 7th and winners will read their essays at assembly on November 10th. Winners will be decided by committee- I'll turn them in to be judged on the 7th.
