November UPDATE 2020-2021 Elementary School Remote Attendance Principles and Procedures
As we continue the 2020-2021 school year in a Remote setting beginning November 23, attendance remains a foundational piece of a student’s academic success. In creating an environment for that academic success, the district works with students and their parents/guardians to encourage consistent ongoing attendance.
Remote Attendance Guiding Principles
Maintain contact information for students and families and build strong relationships that can endure time and distance.
Student and parent contact information. First and foremost, please provide updated contact information for you and your child(ren) to our schools by completing our student’s Emergency Data Review located in our District Family Portal.
Digital access. Contact your child’s principal if you need a Chromebook and/or hotspot to access the internet to engage in classroom activities through our learning management systems (K-5, SEESAW; Grade 6,Schoology). Also, we encourage students to use the video and audio features in the “Online Class” meetings.
Engage and build long-term trust. Continue to establish meaningful communication with our teachers, principals, and school counselors. This builds trust and enables collaboration that supports student attendance.
Pay attention to health and safety first. The focus on consistent student attendance, including exposure and engagement in learning, should be balanced with a priority on the health and safety of students and families.
Emphasize student presence and engagement. The keys to ensuring students are present, engaged, and supported in their learning includes attending “Online Class meetings”, attending “Small Group” times to check in with teachers, asking questions, and making up any missing work. During REMOTE, work completion is part of the attendance equation.
Remote Attendance Procedures for PARENTS
Staff Members will take attendance during each period of the Online Learning Classes daily.
If a student is unable to attend an “Online Class Meeting”, please contact the School’s Attendance Office. If you do not call, you will be contacted by the school, as we typically do..
If a student is not able to connect to the Online Learning Class due to internet, wifi, or technology issues, please have your child contact the teacher when he/she regains access to obtain any work or information missed. Parents will need to contact the Attendance Office for your child’s absence to be marked Excused for the period.
When calling in an absence, please continue to inform us if your student or family is observing an official quarantine. Your student may still participate in ZOOM meetings if they are/feel able to do so.

Weekly Helpful Reminders
* There will be no school (remote learning) on November 25 - November 27 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
* If you have a Chromebook from the school, these need to be plugged in every day! They need to be charging whenever not in use, as they do not work as well when they are allowed to 'die'. Thank you for your help with this!
