Process for Determining When to Close School
Dear Students, Families and Staff:
When weather conditions are severe, the Evansville Community School District follows a set of guidelines for determining if schools should be closed. The District will base a decision on what is best for all students. Individual family circumstances may vary. We encourage and strongly support you in making a decision that is best for your child(ren). You are always the best judge of your family’s health and safety.
Process for determining school closure due to severe weather:
- Information is gathered from multiple local and state weather forecasts.
- The District Administrator, Director of Building and Grounds, Ringhand Bus Company, and the Rock County Sheriff's Department determine if roads are safe for student travel.
- The District Administrator consults with other local School District Administrators.
Extreme cold:
When the National Weather Service issues a wind chill warning for Rock County during the school day, school will be closed. Schools will not necessarily be closed if there is a wind chill advisory for the county, but cancellation will be considered when an advisory shows temperatures may reach -20 degrees Fahrenheit.
School closings notification:
We make every effort to have a final decision prior to 6:30 a.m. We then communicate this decision to local news outlets, post information on our website (www.ecsdnet.org), through an automated phone call and in an email to all families. At times, we will post to social media, our website and news/radio stations prior to calls going out to families as we try not to place phone calls prior to 6 am.
After school activities when school is closed:
When Evansville schools are closed for the day, it also means that all activities scheduled in school buildings for that day are canceled. This includes all programs and all after school activities. Exceptions may be made based on changes in weather conditions.
Late starts and early dismissal during severe weather:
We try to start school on time and keep school open until the regular dismissal time if road conditions are safe. However, if you feel your child(ren) will be safer at home, it is up to your discretion to determine their attendance. Please notify the school office if absent, dropping off late or picking up early. If there is a 2-hour delay, there will not be morning 4K. Afternoon 4K will proceed as scheduled.
When schools are closed for other reasons:
When we close schools for reasons other than severe weather, a notification will be sent to local news outlets, a posting on our website (www.ecsdnet.org), through an automated phone call and in an email to all families. Depending on the circumstances for closing/delay, the District may limit information that is released to the public. Please know, the only reason this would be done would be to keep our top priority, the students, safe.
The safety of every child is our highest priority. We appreciate your understanding and your support when school closing decisions are made.
Sincerely,
Jerry Roth
District Administrator

Student Connectedness Survey
Building positive relationships with kids is essential to their growth and progress and student engagement and connectedness are priorities at EHS. During ACP on Wednesday October 30th, all EHS students were asked to complete a survey designed to help us better identify the needs of our school community and celebrate that things that are going well! Students were surveyed on topics such as safety, connections with peers and adults, and a variety of other topics relevant to our students.
The results of this survey will be used to enhance the overall high school experience for our students.
National Merit Scholarship Commended Student
Congratulations to Gabby Diebold on her selection as a Student of Commendation in the National Merit Scholarship Program!
Veterans' Day Program
On Monday, November 11, Evansville High School and the VFW will be hosting our annual Veterans’ Day Ceremony here at the high school gymnasium. This Evansville tradition of honoring our local veterans is unique for Southern Wisconsin and is one of the largest Veterans’ Day Ceremonies in the State.
This wonderful event helps bring attention to the primary purpose of Veterans’ Day, which is to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of our country, and their willingness to sacrifice for all of us.
While we recognize our veterans with ceremonies and speeches on this special day, and acknowledge the many sacrifices they and their families have made, it is a great time to search out ways to honor our millions of veterans throughout the year. Volunteering with organizations that help veterans, supporting veteran-owned businesses, and donating money to veterans’ causes are just a few ways we can show our gratitude year-round.
Veterans and their families are welcome to arrive at 8:15 for coffee and donuts in the Evansville High School Commons. The Ceremony will begin at 9:00 and take approximately 1.5 hours.
If you are a veteran, or know of any veterans that would be interested in participating in our 2019 ceremony, please forward them this information or have them contact Jason Knott @ knottj@evansville.k12.wi.us

The expansion and upgrades to our Science, Agricultural, and Technology Wing are in the final stages, with only a few details left to finish. Students began welding in the new lab in mid-October and the Manufacturing Lab will be the last area to be operational within the next few weeks. Both students and staff have utilized all other spaces since early September. Please watch for updates for an Open House in late November where community members will have the opportunity to come in and see the new spaces in action!

The doors used to be the entrance to our library. This space will become the Art room and office spaces for Advanced Learning, Social Worker, School Counselor and School Psychologist. The ground level will be the chorus and band classrooms.
The windows on the North side of the cafeteria and former library have been removed and prepped to be tied into the new addition. We do miss the views!

PTO
Our PTO, Parent Teacher Organization, is a small group of committed parents and administrators working together to do great things for all students. The Jack-O-Lantern Jamboree is their largest fundraiser. This event takes a lot of hours to plan, organize and execute. It is well attended by the community and appreciated by our youngsters. The Bucky Book was also sold by the PTO the past couple of years. The PTO funds a variety of things including but not limited to classroom books, field trip expenses, playground equipment, presentations for students and teacher learning opportunities that benefit our students socially and emotionally. We are fortunate to have a supportive PTO yet we could use more individuals to join the committee. If you are interested please like them on Facebook at Evansville K-8 PTO and start attending meetings.
Thank you to the PTO for all of the continued support over the years. Staff and students appreciate you!

Unity & Bullying
On Wednesday, October 23 our middle school wore orange to support unity and stop bullying. The sixth grade Health classes made posters and hung them throughout the building.
Theodore Robinson Intermediate School, Ms. Barb Dorn, Principal
As we wrapped up October with our Halloween parties, we also ended our month long focus on Bullying Prevention. Although the month is over, we will continue our commitment to making TRIS a place where all are welcome and everyone matters. Please help us in our efforts by communicating with us promptly when you have concerns so that we can address situations, learn, regroup and move forward. Sometimes it is hard to remember that our students are 8, 9 and 10 year olds that will make mistakes. They are still learning how to be kind, with us and from us.
Please call, stop in or email me with ideas, questions or concerns at 882-3842 or DornB@evansville.k12.wi.us. We are always here to problem solve with you.

New Entryway & Breakfast
The students and staff at Levi Leonard are enjoying the new safe and secure entryway. New signage and technology have created more efficiency for visitors as well.
As students pass through the entryway each morning, they are directed to the cafeteria where breakfast is served each morning at 7:45. From there, students can head directly to the playground and then to their recess doors to begin the day. With new menu items from Aramark, the ECSD’s new food service provider, students have been eager to be a part of the breakfast program. Please contact the Levi office if you have any questions regarding our breakfast program.
Good News from LEVI
Levi students had a great time learning about and celebrating homecoming week in Evansville. Through fun classroom activities, dress up days and the annual homecoming parade, students supported to the Blue Devils throughout the week of September 30.
Throughout the week of October 7, students learned about Fire Prevention Week by visiting the Evansville Fire Station and touring fire trucks at Levi Leonard.
Students have truly embraced the season through fall field trips to pumpkin patches and Olbrich Gardens.
As we enter November, we ask that students are sent to school with boots and snow pants each day.
