Week 10 We've Come A Long Way, But We Aren't Done Yet
Thank you parents for all of your continued support and getting together for a fun a team dinner last night! I really enjoyed getting to talk to each and everyone of you since I don't really have too many opportunities to do so! Thank you for also being great role models for these young ladies and getting them to some of these crazy practices with the way the weather has been lately. It really is paying off!
Alright Lady Vikes...let's have a focused and fun week of basketball! We got this! #LetsStickWithTheBraids

Bracket Information - This is the 4th year of our post season format combining all GAC school's into one 14 teams girls tournament and one 16 team boys tournament that is divided into two-8 team brackets for each gender. The girls "B" bracket will consist of a 6 team bracket this year. The 8 stronger teams were placed in the "A" bracket and the remaining teams placed in the "B" bracket. I think we were able to accomplish that with the criteria used for the seeding order including: overall record, divisional record, head to head, point differential, and record against common opponents. For the most part the seeds fell into place but there were a couple teams that were very close to each other so I did the best I could with the information available. At times it came down to potential first round matchups and my attempt to keep divisional teams from playing each other for the 3rd or 4th time this year. Seeding this year was also difficult due to the Howell School's limited schedule (competing only against South Division Schools) as well as some schools not having a freshman program this year.
Bracket Notes
Congratulations to the Lady Jaguars from Fort Zumwalt West and the Eagles from Liberty in earning the top seed in their respective tournaments.
For the first time since we started this tournament all 30 teams will open the first round by playing a team outside their division.
12 of the 14 first round games will match up opponents that have not played each other this year during the regular season.
Fort Zumwalt South and Francis Howell Central along with Fort Zumwalt North and Francis Howell will play each other in the first round in both the girls and boys "A" bracket tournament.
I really look forward to seeing everyone next Saturday and throughout the tournament as we complete the C Team Basketball Season.
Thanks,
Paul
Player Duties of the Week
KEYS & UNLOCK DOORS
This person should get my keys from me in B208 immediately after school. They should change quickly and unlock the doors to get to the balls, clock, and the bathroom near the 94 Gym open. Lastly, they need to store my keys in a safe place.

This person needs to make sure the hoops and curtain are down. They should also make sure everyone else is doing their job in a timely fashion and help the BALLS person get out both ball carts.
CLOCK
This person needs to plug in the clock and set the timer for whatever remaining time is left until 2:45pm. This player should remind everyone to start with form shooting for at least 3 minutes.

Characters of the Week are KYRA & CHAR!
KYRA BLONDIN & CHARLOTTE HUMPHREY were both awarded Characters of the Week for many reasons, but I was waiting to see something in both of them that I have known they were capable of all season long. This happened for both girls in our last regular season game vs. FZW. Both of these girls played a large role in bringing home the 'W' in that game because they showed more confidence in themselves and trusted their teammates. KYRA got us going on offensive end with a big shot straight off the bench! She did a great job of watching her feet when the pressure was on her and stepped up to play great defense. CHAR's nerves can get the best of her at times, but she really settled in by the 2nd half, moved the ball well for her teammates, and took very confident shots as they came to her, which made them look effortless.
Very excited to watch these two continue to contribute to the success of the team as we finish off the season in the GAC Tournament! Both girls are INVESTED IN THEIR TEAMMATES and care just as much about their performances as they do their own. They have played a big part in the chemistry of this group and for that alone I am very proud of them!
Congrats girls! Let's keep it up, and Kyra's "not even worried about it"!
10 Characteristics of a Good Teammate
Every day we will focus on improving our basketball skills and our 'teammate' skills. We will emphasize the 10 Characteristics of a Good Teammate on the court and in the classroom.
High character players are a must for any team that has championship goals. It takes players that are willing to step up and lead and get everyone moving towards one common purpose. Players like this are invaluable to a team.
Here are the 10 Characteristic:
1. No Plays Off: The temptation for players is to take possessions off when they are tired or mentally fatigued. This usually happens on the defensive end of the court. High character players stay mentally engaged. 2. Maximum Effort: There are always going to be players that are more naturally gifted and faster than others; a high character player recognizes that they are competing against themselves to run as fast as they can. 3. Competes in Every Drill 4. Leads by Example: Anyone can talk about doing the right things, but it takes a special player to stay committed to doing it the right way day in and day out, regardless of how they are feeling on a certain day. 5. Holds Teammates Accountable: Great teams are player led; if a teammate is acting in a way that hinders the team's success, there needs to be leaders on the team to step up and say something. 6. Celebrates Other's Success: Whether your role is leading scorer or 12th man on the team, it is important that high character players celebrate another teammate's success and the success of the team. This doesn't mean that you don't work hard for a bigger role on the team, but there is no place for talking bad about teammates or complaining about minutes. 7. First In and Last Out: This goes back to leading with actions and not just words. Players know who is in the gym working hard, and if you want to challenge your teammates to work harder, you need to be the hardest worker on the team. 8. Does the Right thing when No One is Watching: It is easy to do the right thing when you know a coach is watching, but when character is really revealed is when no one is watching. Do you touch every line even when the coaches aren't watching? Do you complete every rep? 9. Invested in Teammates: Getting in the gym and working on your individual skill development is great. However, the next step and a sign of a high character player is bringing teammates with you when you go to the gym. 10. Communicates at a High Level: Basketball is a game of communication. Whether you are on the defensive end of the court, on the bench, or on offense, you should always be communicating. Communication is contagious, and before you know it the whole team will follow your lead and begin to communicate on a high level.
