TerraNichol Academy Of The Arts
13th Annual School Play "A Night At The Art Museum". 2019
Parent Play Letter 2019
Dear Parents,
We are thrilled to present to you the 13th annual school play. The play is titled “The Night At The Art Museum.” The Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will be participating in the performance. Hands-on “Rehearsals” are currently underway as students are learning how to interact with props, demonstrate a variety of emotions, learn about stage direction, and become familiar with some of the main characters and songs of the show.
Over the next few weeks from March through May the students are engaged in the development of the play with the teaching team. We began this process during the month of February building prior knowledge about stage shows, characters, and the rhythm of the play itself.
Please keep your parent letter/blog handy, as it will guide you with play dates and schedules. We are planning on having in-depth rehearsals on Wednesdays and some Thursdays beginning at 8:30 promptly. Please make sure your child arrives at school on time. 8:30 am sharp as Miss Terra will begin play rehearsals promptly. We will not be able to take late students to rehearsals as it will be a disruption to the rehearsals. Make sure you are arriving on time to school every day not just Wednesdays. Junior Kindergarten/Kindergarten program starts promptly at 8:30 am.
We will also continue to use music appreciation, Zumba, and drama workshops to practice choreography and line development.
Meet your director and producer:
Your child’s director and producer for this production are Miss Terra and Miss Michelle.
We will be working with actors on choreography, line delivery, and stage presence.
Other Characters: Other supporting characters will be played by Miss Michelle, Terra Tominelli, and Ethan Messier.
Play Rehearsals at TerraNichol: Full play rehearsals will be every Wednesday/Thursday on campus. Students will also be practicing songs and dance routines during Music and Movement and Zumba and lines during Drama throughout the week. It is very important that as long as your child is healthy, he or she is at school to attend rehearsals.
Character Development/Play Introduction: Actors will be participating in character development and will be introduced to the performance experience throughout the months of March, April, May on Wednesdays & Thursdays at 8:30 sharp. Please be on time as this is very important to the students. They have gained so much excitement over this year's show and we do not want to hinder their creativity or diminish this experience for our young actors.

Information about the play:
This year’s play is perfect for TerraNichol Academy and represents one of our most important tenets: focusing on the arts and providing an art-enriched environment! There will be fun characters to play that you may find when exploring an art museum. All the scenes and songs will reflect the message. Every child will have a role that best fits them and will learn numerous songs and dances over the next 15 weeks. In this blog, we are providing the play music for your child to practice learning the lyrics. In the past students have really enjoyed listening to play music in the car! Encourage your child to show you some of the dance numbers as well. Play it in the car, at home, or for a family member such as grandparents and encourage your child to “entertain you.” The more practice and chances your child gets to perform, the more confident he or she will become for show time! The lyrics are included in this blog as well so that you can sing along and help your child learn the tunes!
Please note that participation in this year’s school performance is optional. Please let us know ASAP if your child will not be participating.
Costumes
Please find the costume information in this blog, as students will be designing costumes at home. We will post some inspiring ideas for this year’s attire on the school fan page and in this play blog. **See Costume sample shirt in parent rock room area.** We have costume samples for you to view in the rock room. It will be crucial to follow the directions for the costume design as over the years we have found what works best on stage to keep all students comfortable and we have the effect of the glow in the dark for lines got rhythm scene of the play.
DRESS REHEARSAL INFORMATION:
We will be holding one dress rehearsal at the performance site (The Lemon Bay Playhouse) on Friday, May 17th, 2019 Time Frame 9:30am-11:30 am.
We ask for all students to be dropped off at the side door of the playhouse for dress rehearsal by 9:15 am on the day of dress rehearsal. We will check all students in. Students will be dismissed promptly at the conclusion of dress rehearsal through the side door to parents only. (Unless other arrangements are made with the teaching staff prior to this day) Dress Rehearsal is a closed rehearsal. We will not grant access to anyone accept actors, teachers, and production crew. We want to keep the element of surprise for show night. Take this opportunity to enjoy a stroll along Dearborn Street! Students should arrive to dress rehearsal dressed fully in their costume. Dress Rehearsal is the most important rehearsal for the show in which many final decisions and preparations need to be made involving lighting, sounds, staging, students’ lines, costuming, and props. It is our last chance to finalize the show and we ask for everyone to be on time to allow us the full dress rehearsal window and to remain outside of the theater until we dismiss students. Parents are asked to form carpooling groups and meet at the playhouse for both dress rehearsal and performance night.
Performance:
TerraNichol Academy partners with The Lemon Bay Playhouse so we are able to coordinate the use of their quaint theatre. This is a very exciting opportunity for your child, as he/she will get to perform on a “real stage” with lights and sound!
The performance is planned at the Lemon Bay Playhouse, 96 W Dearborn St, on Saturday, May 18th, 2019 at 2:00 pm. All Students must arrive at the Playhouse by 1:00 pm for final preparations. Students will need to be dropped off one hour prior to the performance. No EXCEPTIONS! Please respect the entire show crew and be on time.
All students should be dropped off at the side door of the theater. Students should come dressed as instructed and ready for the show. The performance will run around 35-45 minutes. We will have a cast party immediately following the show for 30 minutes. TerraNichol families will have the opportunity to take fun family photos in the photo booth after the play performance. All families will receive a free keepsake photo strip. Families will enjoy dressing up with props and taking funny photos as a keepsake memory.
We have been asked to wrap the cast party up by no later than 1 hour after the show ends per Lemon Bay Playhouse.
***Note: The stage is a very warm environment. The lights are hot!!! That is why we suggest lightweight clothing. Please make sure that your child has pottied, have been hydrated, ate a healthy nonsugar diet and had the opportunity to rest/nap before arriving at both dress rehearsal and performance night.

In the Actor's Studio
We are in the beginning stages of developing lines. As more lines are added to the show we will update and resend the blog.
We keep a positive environment throughout the development of the school play. We do not force students to have lines if they are not showing interest or displaying a level of comfort in doing so. There are group lines throughout the length of the show for the entire group to deliver. We simply want our students to have exposure to theater life, enjoy the experience of being on a stage and develop social confidence and grace.
Student Lines:
As of know students have decided on the following lines:
Line Cue: Miss Terra: "What colors do you like to use in your art?"
Oliver: I use green because it's my favorite color. It reminds me of sea turtles.
Eleacea: I use teal because it is an amazing color. It's made with blue and green.
Asher: I like blue to make dinosaurs!
Alyssa: I use black and white because I can make penguins!
Zoey: I use yellow because its like a nice sunshine!
Logan: I like to use red for my background!
Henry: I like to use red because it reminds me of exploding volcanoes!
Eleacea: Look over there its Frida painting in her bed.
Johnny: I wonder who we will meet next?
I wonder what this button does?
Johnny Back Up: Look over there its Frida painting in her bed.
Alyssa: I wonder what this button does?
Henry: I wonder what this button does?
Entire Cast: Jackson Pollock did it! He’s in his drip period! He started it and we just joined in!
