Smoking is Expensive

Smoking is one of the most expensive habits you could have. According to kidshealth.org smoking on average can cause whoever that smoker is thousands of dollars a year, thats about 83 dollars a month. All of the money that smokers use to buy packs of cigarettes all the time can be used to buy much more important things, like food for family or clothing for your kids, but spending it on packs of cigarettes day after day is just wasting your money. You can also you the thousands of dollars you would save a year if you quit smoking on entertainment purposes like tickets to a football game, board games to play with your family or even use it to go on vacation. So with all of this money there is much better things to spend it in then smoking.

Causes Diseases

Smoking also causes very many diseases. According to medicalnewstoday.com smoking helps causes over a dozen different types of cancers including Bladder cancer, Kidney cancer , Cancers of the pharynx and larynx (throat cancer) ,Mouth cancer , Esophagus cancer, and etc. What makes smoke so deadly is the chemicals in it. “The smoke is made up of more than 7,000 chemicals, including over 60 known to cause cancer”. Some of these chemicals are Cyanide, Benzene, Formaldehyde, Methanol (wood alcohol), Acetylene (the fuel used in welding torches), and Ammonia. When you breathe in smoke these chemicals enter your lungs and spread around the rest of your body. Also scientists have proven that the chemicals in the smoke can damage your DNA and change important genes that are inside your body. This causes cancer by making your cells grow and multiply abnormally or out of control. So if you want to lower your chance of getting cancer or diseases then you should not smoke.

Not all smokers die though or even get cancer at all. An example of this is with my great aunt, she has lived until her “mid-nineties” and she smokes about a pack of cigarettes every day, but this does not mean smoking is not deadly, it’s just saying that if you smoke you are more likely to get lung cancer. 15.9% for current male smokers, 9.5% for current women smokers, 24.4% for male “heavy smokers” defined as smoking more than 5 cigarettes per day, 18.5% for women “heavy smokers” to get lung disease says lungcancer.about.com. Those percentages are just for lung cancer, imagine what the percents are for other diseases then compile them together. That is a lot of different chances of you getting diseases. It’s like saying eating sugary foods causes tooth decay. Not all kids who eat sugary foods will get tooth decay but more often than not it does cause tooth decay. So either way smoking is a bad idea even if there is a small chance you will not get cancer or any other diseases.

Causes Death

Smoking also can cause death. In the united states over 440,000 deaths happen every year from smoking according to medical news today.com or MNT. And in the UK 100,000 deaths happen every year from smoking. Also it causes nearly one in every five deaths in the United States each year, and one in every four UK cancer deaths, and almost a fifth of all cancer cases.

Conclusion

Therefore smoking is a horrible thing to do yourself and others around you, and is expensive, deadly, and a large chance of getting diseases. In my opinion it is the worst thing that you could do to your body, so you should never smoke in my opinion.
