Trustee Partnership
I am excited to announce that we will be adding Trustee Darlene Breaux to our AMS family. Trustee Breaux was elected to the Alief board of trustees in November 2017. She knows Alief and knows our field, having been in education herself. This partnership with Trustee Breaux will provide a valuable experience for our campus. So please make her feel welcome when you see her on campus and show her your purpose, passion, and pride!
A Helping Hand
Please help me welcome Ms. Rosalba Rochac. She is a certified/clear volunteer and will be spending lots of time at AMS helping out in the work room. We appreciate the help and look forward to working with her.
Important Reminders
Goal setting conferences will be taking place over the next couple of weeks with your supervisor. You will be responsible for having at least two goals. The first goal will be our campus goal: Grow 3% in Approaches, 2% in Meets, and 1% in Masters. The second goal is one that you will create and discuss with your supervisor. In order to be ready for the conference you will need to complete your "Self Assessment" in Strive. The purpose of the self assessment is to review yours and your students' data and to identify areas for professional growth.
When reflecting on your data and your practices be sure to consider our campus initiatives put in place to improve first line instruction (SIOP - SGI, WICOR, Writing across contents).
Creating your goal in Strive: Your goal should be SMART and include actions, targeted completion date, and evidence of attainment. You should specify the types of support needed to meet your goals. You should identify milestones that will demonstrate progress towards the goals is occurring. Finally, you should specify the evidence that will support goal attainment.
Open House
Open House is Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Remember that we will not have a structured schedule for parents to follow. Please read Mr. Khowja's email for more details!
I will welcome parents in the cafeteria from 6:00 - 6:15 pm. I will try to keep it brief so the parents can get to your classes, but I will be giving them some information about Title I (in Eng and Span)

Library
There are always things happening in the library. We hosted our first Cover-to-Cover book club meeting and had a record 17 students join, as well as staff members Ms. Escamilla, Mr. Rieck, Mrs. Morrison, and Ms. Sweeny! It is a varied, fun and enthusiastic group of kids.
Morning library averages about 60 kids who are reading, working on classroom projects, playing games, or just getting centered for the day ahead. It is a positive way for kids to start the day. Lunches are fast becoming full and we are having to turn kids away for A-Lunch passes! We have also had an average of about 10-15 kids stay after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays to work on homework. On September 10th, we are taking 40 ESL students to visit at Hastings with the author Eoin Colfer, who has a new realistic graphic novel called "Illegal" about an African migrant boy and his perilous journey across the ocean in search of a better life. This event is brought to us by Alief and Blue Willow Books. We hope this is one of many author events we can participate in this year.
Book Fair returns September 24-28
