RMS Monday Message
August 23, 2021
Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year!
Back to School Orientations
Rising 6th Grade & Transfer Students
Rombout Middle School will be holding several orientation sessions in order to welcome new and returning students back for the 2021-2022 school year! Any rising 6th grade student, and students new to the Beacon City School District (transfer students), are welcome to attend a morning orientation session in order to learn about RMS and get acclimated to the middle school building. 1-2 adults may accompany their student. We are splitting up the sessions by elementary school in order to reduce capacity in the building each day. Transfer students may choose 1 orientation session, on any date, to attend.
The schedule for the day will include a meet and greet with the RMS Administrative team, a meet and greet with the Guidance Counselors, an informational overview of a student’s transition to middle school, a workshop on ParentPortal and a club/activities fair. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the building, find their classes and practice opening lockers.
Returning 7th & 8th Grade Students
RMS will be open for returning 7th and 8th grade students to visit the building and get a copy of their new class schedule on August 26th and August 30th from 1:00-2:30pm. Guidance and administration will be available to meet with students and answer any questions they may have about the upcoming school year. Information about extra-curricular activities and upcoming events will be distributed to any students that attend.
Back to School COVID-19 Guidelines
All students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear a mask in the school building. Masks will not be required outside and students will be given frequent mask breaks. The masking mandate will be evaluated throughout the school year by the Superintendent and any changes to the policy will be communicated to the community.
The requirement for social distancing in school is now 3 feet apart. This will enable us to bring the class sizes back to normal and replace the student desks in the cafeteria with our lunch tables.
Split Lunch Sessions
Lunch will be structured in a similar way it was structured in the 2020-2021 school year. Students will be scheduled into a lunch period where they either "eat first" or go to "recess first." Structuring lunch this way helps us to reduce capacity in our lunchroom. Students will also be given the option to eat lunch outside in our picnic area.

USDA has extended free school meals through June 2022
BCSD Food Services is excited to announce that all school meals for the 2021-2022 school year are free! Although all meals are at no charge, food services still encourages families to apply for Free/Reduced priced meals if they feel they qualify. This will help students, and the school overall, with other funding opportunities. Please see the attached parent guides. If you have any questions about school meals, feel free to reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org.
