MCAS Season is Over!
We're so proud of our 3rd and 4th graders who worked hard to show everything they learned over the course of the year! It was amazing to see the rest of the school rallying around them through their encouragement.
Reminder: All K and Gr. 1 students are eligible for free transportation
Free/Reduced Lunch
All students enrolled in Attleboro Public Schools will continue to receive free meals through June 2022 regardless of eligibility status. However, families are required to submit updated free/reduced lunch applications annually. Though students will continue to receive free meals, an application must be submitted each school year to qualify for additional support. The lunch application can be found HERE and can be completed until May 31, 2021 for the current school year.
Registration
In order to help us more accurately build our classes for next year, please encourage anyone you know living in Attleboro with children entering grades K-12 who is not currently registered for school to do so as soon as possible. This also helps families guarantee their child(ren) will be able to attend their neighborhood school. Students who enroll after a school has reached its maximum enrollment are transferred to another school in Attleboro.
Registering a student can be done using the following link: Online Registration 2021-22

This Week in Music
This week and last week in music class, students have been listening to a story about an African American jazz music legend; Louis Armstrong for kindergarten and first-grade students, and a choice of either Ella Fitzgerald or Duke Ellington for second, third, and fourth-graders. We also have listened to examples of music by these legends, and second, third and fourth graders have mapped out the form of their song.
Kindergarten and first-grade students then demonstrated the macro and micro beat of the song and then played along with rhythm sticks.
Second, third and fourth graders learned about melody, scatting and improvisation, and were asked to choose between demonstrating the melody or improvisation by using pool noodles. As they were sitting when their portion of the music was not being sung/played, they were asked to watch another student and be prepared to offer a positive, specific compliment to that student.
If you have any questions about our lessons this week, feel free to email me at cgiannetti@attleboroschools.com. I look forward to second, third, and fourth graders putting their knowledge about improvisation into practice by playing our drums, xylophones, and metallophones next week.
Mrs. Giannetti, Music Teacher
