Kindergarten
This week in Kindergarten we learned about gravity and flight with our recycled kites, how to protect our environment on Earth Day and controlling our bodies and actions during our Karate Demonstration.
We also had a great time sharing our stories from “Taking our Kid to Work Day”! Afterwards we reflected on becoming a model citizen and what it means to work as an adult.
First Grade
Ms. DiNuzzo’s class recently finished animal book projects and they are all individualized and looking great! Students completed a STEM/critical thinking project this week to Save Fred (the worm) and place him back in his boat with his life vest on. It was a challenge, but we finished strong! If interested in doing this activity at home go to: https://youtu.be/L26KZ99xfT0 We look forward to the next couple weeks when we continue to work on our Elementary is Engineering - Bioengineering project. We are excited!

Ms. Hurley’s class is having a fun time with our A-Z countdown to the end of the year. Students are looking forward to counting down the last days until summer vacation in fun and educational ways.
Fourth Grade
Fifth Grade
Ms. Calabrese’s class experienced cleaning oil off feathers for an Earth Day activity. They were given different materials and worked together to collect the oil from the feathers while cleaning it. They have also been busy practicing and preparing for the upcoming FSAs and learning more about animal adaptations.
Ms. Calabrese and Ms. Blaske’s class will be working together next week to review for the Math and Science FSA/FCAT by having the students participate in a test prep carnival. The culminating carnival will be on Friday, May 3. If any parents are interested in volunteering to help out, please look for the upcoming sign up.
Next week is the due date for AR (5/01). Students will have their AR party on Friday, May 3.
Next week is ELA FSA for fifth grade (May 1st and May 2nd).
Lastly, The 5th grade Animal Kingdom field trip permission slip form is due next Friday, May 6.
Sixth Grade
This week the students read two informational texts about the Titanic and researched actual people that were on the ship to write narrative nonfiction. We played a Titanic board game to recall important details about the event and consider the sequence/details of their narratives.
NJHS
Students in 5th-6th grade spent time to focus on the Character trait of
May: Tolerance. Ms. Kish had the students blow up a balloon with a word such as: Ethnicity, Culture, Music, Color, Food, and Religion written on it. The kids had no idea what word they had until it was blown up. The students then had to explain how they and “society” can be tolerate of the word. Some responses were---”One way to become tolerate of food is accepting the smell. Maybe the the smell is something you are not used to, but, you may find the taste is delicious. It happened the first time I tried curry!” Another student shared that through learning about different religions in World History class, he became more understanding of a classmate’s belief. A perfect example of this is when the Notre Dame burned and Ms. Kish talked about the Crown of Thorns. Many students did not know the symbolism behind it.
