Superintendent Search
To engage all stakeholders and clearly communicate all aspects of this process, there will be various opportunities for participation including a survey and forum meetings. Search team consultants from BWP will conduct one-on-one interviews with board members, focus group discussions, and an open community forum.
For the focus groups (except open community form), each principal was tasked with choosing participants for the following groups (see below). Each group could only be 12-18 people (which has to be divided up between all four schools). For each group, I put names into a random generator. For the certified staff, I broke it down as follows: 2 from each grade level, 1 from specials/GT, 1 from interventionists/IFs, and 1 from special education. If you were selected for one of the groups, please be at the designated room at the admin building on Wednesday, March 28, at the appropriate time. If there is a reason you cannot attend, I need to know by Monday at noon, so I can get a replacement.
- Admin: 9:15-10:15 = Wilson, Garris = Curriculum Room
- Paras and Nurses: 2:00-3:00 = Weaver, Echols, Carter, Fulks = Board Room
- Clerical/Cafeteria: 2:00-3:00 = Parks, Johnson (cafeteria), G. Davis (cafeteria) = Curriculum Room
- Certified: 3:40-4:40 = Foster, Sawyer, McDowell, Jones, Poole, Ward, Fox, Plunkett, Moriarty = Board Room (BPS and BES staff while BMS and BHS staff will be in curriculum room)
- Community (everyone invited): 6:00-7:00 = BHS Auditorium
The public (includes each of you) is invited to complete a survey to assist with the superintendent search. The survey is currently open and will close on March 30, 2018. To participate in this survey, please click HERE.
The data collected from these sources will contribute to a profile that will be developed and used to identify and select the most highly qualified individuals for this position. The posting of the position and advertisements will be listed in several publications and the deadline for application submission is April 7, 2018. The completed profile will be presented to the board. That profile will be used by BWP to narrow down the applicants to a smaller pool, who will then be presented to the school board. The school board will be provided training from BWP on best practices for conducting a superintendent interview. The school board will interview and narrow down the applicant pool again. The applicants that make it through that round of interviews will tour the schools and complete a final interview with the school board. The announcement of the new superintendent is hoped to be made at May 21st board meeting.
Reminders and Announcements
- Kindergarten -
- 1st grade -
- 2nd grade -
- Special -
- TOTAL so far = 140 lbs. 3 oz.
2. Box Tops for Education - We are collecting box tops to help pay for our PBIS store. Please turn them into Ms. Newsom in kindergarten or put them in the box in the office.
3. Can you name our behavior expectations? Can your students?
- Substitutes - We have not been able to find substitutes to fill every absence. Many of our paraprofessionals have been subs when Subteach cannot fill a spot. I know this leaves students without interventions but there is not much we can do. Please be patient with your interventionists. Some of our subs have been doing double duty - Ms. Pledge has been awesome - One day she had music and computer at the same time.
- Substitutes - You MUST have an updated sub tub. Recently it has been an issue that subs have had nothing to do with their students or haven't been able to find the sub tub. Your sub tub must have copied work if you are leaving worksheets (subs do not have access to the copier and the secretaries cannot make the copies and do their own work at the same time). The sub tub must also include an updated roster and transportation list. The sub must know how the students get home in the afternoon.
- Students missing buses: If one of your students misses the bus, you must stay with them until someone comes to get them (even if that is after 3:30). Please be vigilant and make sure your students are getting on the bus in the afternoon.

Picture Book Recommendation of the Week
Stand in My Shoes: Kids Learning about Empathy by Bob Sornson
When Emily asks her big sister what the word empathy means, Emily has no idea that knowing the answer will change how she looks at people. But does it really matter to others if Emily notices how they're feeling? Standing in My Shoes shows kids how easy it is to develop empathy toward those around them. Empathy is the ability to notice what other people feel. Empathy leads to the social skills and personal relationships which make our lives rich and beautiful, and it is something we can help our children learn. This book teaches young children the value of noticing how other people feel.
Motivational Quote of the Week
It sounds so simple, doesn’t it? Work hard, be nice. That’s easy to do when things are going well. But what about when things aren’t going so well? What about when you’re exhausted, and you feel like you have nothing to give? Push through it. Go that extra mile. Do what needs to be done. Your students are counting on you.
Go out of your way to be nice and smile at fellow teachers as you pass them in the hallway. Say “good morning.” Say an encouraging word. You might just make someone’s day or turn their day around!
What the Principal is Reading
Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher
There's no love lost between Harry Dresden, the only wizard in the Chicago phone book, and the White Council of Wizards, who find him brash and undisciplined. But war with the vampires has thinned their ranks, so the Council has drafted Harry as a Warden and assigned him to look into rumors of black magic in the Windy City. As Harry adjusts to his new role, another problem arrives in the form of the tattooed and pierced daughter of an old friend, all grown-up and already in trouble. Her boyfriend is the only suspect in what looks like a supernatural assault straight out of a horror film. Malevolent entities that feed on fear are loose in Chicago, but it's all in a day's work for a wizard, his faithful dog, and a talking skull named Bob...
