Tuesday we covered the basic forms of poetry: couplet, tercet, quatrain, haiku, and diamond. The students tried their hand at writing each form and we shared out at the end of class.
On Wednesday, I gave the students a format for a poem called "I am". I showed them a few examples that I have collected from my past classes. This year, the students took the idea and ran with it. I was so impressed with their poems and the ideas and the descriptions that they put into them. Please ask your child to share it with you. They all did a fabulous job!
Thursday brought us the topic of concrete poems. The poems take on the shape of what the poem is about. They are usually more of a visual poem. Again, I think the kids did a great job and really enjoyed themselves creating them.
Friday I introduced the end of the year project, Gift of Words.
7th Grade
We spent most of the week organizing the ideas. They had Thursday and Friday as work days in class. The project is due on Tuesday, when we return from the holiday weekend.
This will be the last grade in Skyward, and it will go in as a project grade. Students have the rubric and are aware of what is expected of them.
