Our Strategies We are working on!
Our Highlights: What We've Been Rockin' At!
We are kicking off our People Who Made a Difference Unit! This is a fantastic unit where students will not only learn about history, people who made a positive impact on the world, and important events, but they will learn that there are many ways to make a positive difference and change the world! Over the next few months, in class students will choose a person to research, write a biography book on that person, write a speech, and design a costume! Students will take on immense ownership, voice, and choice while using some 21st century skills of researching and technology. Students did such a wonderful job on the last unit by working with a partner to research their country of choice! I simply can't wait for them to use what they already learned and expand on it. Students will become their person they research and write about in March during our Living Wax Museum where they will dress up as their person, show off their biographies, and deliver their speeches to audiences (including you!).
I have been conferencing with students about their interests and people that they might be interested in researching. They filled out an interest inventory and then we spoke further about they interests I helped them to narrow and direct their focus into the right areas. Then, students looked up and read a little about people that fit their focus and made a list of possible people they are thinking about learning more about. Connect with your child by asking who they think they would like to research! They will be making their final decision on Monday and then they will begin reading a biography about their person.
