Growing Leaders! November 15, 2020
What's Happening in the Furr Fold!
Good Afternoon Furr Families!
This past week was another GREAT week filled with learning, laughter, kindness, and Presentations! Everyday, your student is asked to speak and collaborate with partners. They are learning the art of speaking and presenting. As I visit classrooms, I am impressed with the speaking abilities of our students and how they have grown in this area, since the beginning of the school year. Speaking and Presenting is a skill needed for all students to be successful in the workplace. It starts at a young age, it's elementary!
BOOK FAIR...COVID STYLE! Our book fair started on Monday. It is a virtual fair this year. Parents, to learn more about this, please see the write-up below.

BAD WEATHER: This is a reminder that if there is a possibility of bad weather that could result in the delay of the start of school or closing school, we will use CONNECT ED to notify you. You will receive an e-mail, phone call, and text message notifying you of the delay or closing. In addition, the information will be posted on all PISD social media outlets. Moreover, the local television stations will receive notice as well. Therefore, there is no need to call your child’s campus to see if we are having school. If you do not receive any notification, we will be having school and starting at the regularly scheduled time. For this reason, it is important to make sure that your school has the most up-to-date and accurate contact information.
LABELING ALL ITEMS: Parents, if possible, please label all items that are sent to school with your child's last name on it. I would rather return an item, back to our students, than for any item never to be reclaimed again. Your help with this would be appreciated.
TARDIES: We have had many students late to school...and late to class, since our weather has started to cool down. When a student is late, they miss out on their class morning meetings! The first part of the day is crucial to the social-emotional well-being of all our students! The day is specifically designed around this and when our students are late, they are missing this vital lesson. Please make sure you are getting your student to school on time! Thank you.
MORNING ARRIVAL: DROPPING OFF YOUR CHILD: We have 2 areas designed for dropping off your student safely, the front (A-L) car line and the back (M-Z) car line. Please DO NOT drop your child off at the bike racks. This is not a drop off zone. Thank you for your help in this area.
PICKING UP YOUR CHILD DURING SCHOOL HOURS:
Parents that need to pick up their child from school during the school day should remain in their car and call the front desk @ 469-219-2280. School staff will then escort the child out to the car and verify identification before releasing the child.
Education, the foundation on which all lives are built. Thank you for entrusting us with your children. The collaboration between teachers, families and students is what builds the solid foundation for our student's educational success. I wanted to thank you parents for your patience and grace. Please know that we are in this together as we educate our kids! Thank you for entrusting us with your children so that we can make the world a better place. It starts with us...Be Kind!

FACE COVERINGS
@FURRELEMENTARY
Face coverings are required for all adults, 4th graders and 5th graders at Furr Elementary. We highly encourage ALL students, Pre-K to 5th grade, to wear a mask. All masks, brought from home, need to follow the PISD dress code requirements. Parents, please pack a mask in your child's backpack where it is readily accessible in case your child needs one. Thank you for your help in this matter.
Here at Furr Elementary, we will continue to follow and implement all guidelines set forth by our governor, local authorities and our district. We continue to enforce face coverings, washing hands, using hand sanitizer and social distancing on a continual basis. Please check our district website, Covid Dashboard, for any and all updates from our district.

EVERYDAY.....HEALTH SCREENER as a GUIDE to Send Your Student to School
Every morning before you send your child to school, please look over the Health Screener to make your decision of whether or not my child should come to school today. WE thank you for taking the time to answer these questions on a daily basis and...keeping our school community safe!
VIRTUAL BOOK FAIR...HAS STARTED!
Dear Furr Families,
You are officially invited to our Virtual Furr Time Machine Book Fair. Things might look different this year but we still want to provide the opportunity for our in person and virtual students to shop for their very own books. Our Virtual Fair will run from Monday, November 9th through Sunday, November 22nd. You can access the Fair beginning on the 9th through this link https://tinyurl.com/furrbookfair. There you will find a digital flyer, video previews of the books, teacher wish lists and all of the information you need to visit our Virtual Book Fair. Feel free to share this link with family and friends who might be interested in purchasing a book or two.
All orders will be delivered directly to your home within 7 to 10 business days - just in time for holiday gifts. Enjoy free shipping on book-only orders over $25.
If you would like to participate in our One School – One Read, please purchase an I Survived book by Lauren Tarshis. These books are historical fiction books told from the perspective of kids and are appropriate for 2nd – 5th grade. We will have virtual book discussions for our in-person and virtual students to participate in together.
We look forward to “seeing” you at the Virtual Furr Time Machine Book Fair. Your love and support of reading makes a difference. Thank you for supporting our library!
