Tiger Nation Newsletter
Weekly Report for September 16, 2022
Tiger Nation:
Thank you to those that came out last night to support the GHS Carnival! Please join us this evening at 7 pm for our Homecoming Football game as the Tigers play host to McClintock High School.
Our Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, September 17th from 7 - 10 pm in our GHS Cafeteria. Students will need to have their school picture ID for dance entry.
Our next parent site council meeting will take place on Monday, September 19th from 5-6 pm in the Hub (counseling area). This will be an opportunity to meet the GHS Administrative Team and learn more about their specific roles as well as GHS in general. All are welcome to attend!
Unfortunately, we have had to close two of our four sets of restrooms at GHS at this time because of vandalism and inappropriate behaviors. Students continue to have access to two fully functional sets of restrooms. We are hopeful that we will be able to reopen these in the near future.
Congratulations to GHS Sophomore Swimmer Lorin Tobler. She recently set two school records in the 100 Butterfly and the 100 Backstroke at the Croswhite Invite!
Congratulations to GHS Sophomore Christopher Van Sant. Chris was selected as the August 2022 Town Council Student Citizen of the Month!
Please remind your students to bring and visibly wear their ID badge to school every day. Spending time at the Bookstore to receive a temporary or replacement ID badge takes away from student learning/class time.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support of Gilbert High School!

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is coming up on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:30 am. Gilbert High School recommends that students take the PSAT/NMSQT in order to receive feedback about strengths and weaknesses, enter the competition for National Merit Scholar scholarships (11th graders) and to help prepare for the SAT. This is a great tool for students considering college as it measures critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills and writing skills.
For the 2022 PSAT/NMSQT, ALL 10th graders will be taking the test and students will be automatically registered. Students in 11th grade at Gilbert High School who are interested MUST register online using the link below. This registration will take a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with internet access.
Online Exam registration will begin on Fri, Aug 26, 2022 at 12:00 AM and end on Fri, Sep 9, 2022 at 11:59 PM and space is limited. In order to register, students or parents should click on the following link:
www.TotalRegistration.net/PSAT/030140
To complete registration, students must answer all of the required questions. Registration is not complete until students have printed the pdf of the confirmation page that is provided at the end.
Gilbert High School is excited to offer families the convenience of paying the $25 exam fee online at the time of registration. Please be sure to have a debit or credit card available before beginning registration. Paying online is a great way to make sure that payment has been made while avoiding mailing payment.

ALL GPS Students and Staff are REQUIRED to wear ID Badges
As we prepare for the beginning of a new school year we are introducing a number of initiatives designed to further promote the safety of our students and staff on campus. Thank you in advance for your support of our efforts. These initiatives are in addition to ongoing safety and security projects including the installation of integrated security cameras and secured entryways on all campuses. Please read on for key information to prepare for the new school year.
Student ID Badges Grades 7-12
For the 2022/23 school year students in grades 7-12 will be expected to wear their student ID badges at all times. Students will be provided with their badge and lanyard during the first weeks of school.
Key Information:
- Please work with your students to ensure they bring their ID badge with them to school every day.
- When students arrive at school they will enter through designated points on campus and will be required to have their ID badge for entrance.
- Bus riders will use the barcode on their ID badge for getting on and off the bus. As a parent you will be able to view the whereabouts of the bus using the Here Comes the Bus app, more details below.
- Students will continue to use the barcode on their ID badges to access nutrition services (cafeteria), library, and bookstore.
- If a student forgets their badge they will be issued a temporary sticker badge for a small $1 cost.
- Cost for replacement badges (lost ID’s) will remain at $5.00.
Here Comes the Bus App 7-12 Grade
We are excited to announce the introduction of 'Here Comes the Bus,' a new service for our families whose students ride the school bus. The app allows GPS parents and families to track the real-time location of their student's school bus, to know when and where their student boards or exits the bus, and helps ensure GPS students get to the bus stop on time.
GPS Families Hub
The Families Hub offers a wide range of resources to help you and your student(s) throughout the
school year, including back to school updates, menus, nutritional information, enrollment details and
more.
Download the GPS Mobile App
The GPS App includes a link to IC, as well as access to your student’s school calendar, meal information, bus routes, and other helpful information for parents and students. Visit www.gilbertschools.net/app for more information.
See Something? Say Something!
The confidential GPS Tip Line was designed to promote school and student safety and wellbeing. Students and parents can report a threat or potential threat about a student or school. The Tip Line also provides information on other topics, which may affect our students, staffs, or schools.
