Message From the Principal
Dear Wheeler Families,
As we begin to wind down the school year, I have a few friendly reminders. These reminders are important especially with the end of year events taking place at Wheeler.
- If you are going to pick up your child early from school, please notify the office well in advance. It is always a challenge to safely dismiss children when requests are made on the same day after 2pm. Emailing Mrs. Daigle at daigler@plainvilleschools.org and/or Mrs. Grouten at groutenm@plainvilleschools.org prior to 2 pm (or earlier the better) will ensure a safe dismissal for your child.
- The last day for PM PRE-K will be on Wednesday, June 8th. The last day for AM PRE-K will be on Monday, June 13th.
- Through years of experience, I have learned that when the warm weather arrives in May and with only a few weeks left of school, children tend to become more active and perhaps more impulsive during unstructured activities e.g. lunch, recess, wellness. Please have a brief conversation with your child about the importance of being a leader of the PACK, making good decisions, letting an adult know immediately if they see something wrong or if they were mistreated, and overall finishing the year on a positive note.
As a school, this is a message we communicate more frequently during this time of year so hearing the same message from parents at home should increase the likelihood of it sticking.
Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing Wheeler Families at the upcoming end of year events!
Sincerely,
Mr. B.

Indian Rock visits first grade at Wheeler
First graders were visited by Ms. Eileen and Ms. Barbara from Indian Rock. They brought animals that are native to CT such as green frogs, corn snakes, box turtles and even a stuffed Horned Owl. Students were able to touch the animals, and learned about their habits and habitats.
Third Graders Beach Blanket Buzz!!
Third graders celebrated the end of a reading unit on Character Studies by sharing a favorite novel they read. Students set up their beach blankets and rotated from blanket to blanket to meet with other third graders to chat about their book recommendations. It was an interactive way for kids to find and share new great books to read!
