International Mother Language Day!
International Mother Language Day is coming up on Feb. 21st! One thing we are starting this year is a book drive! We would love to expand our library of books in languages that our students speak at home. A secondary goal is to expand the number of books we have in Spanish, since all students at Findley take Spanish each week.
Details:
1. Picture books might work best so that a range of students can access the text.
2. Any family that chooses to participate will send in the book for students to share on Feb. 21st. Feel free to add a "Donated by..." and message on in inside cover.
3. All books will go into a "roaming library" cart so classes can have time to see what's been donated.
4. Books will be put in a special spot for students to access to years to come.

2018 FINDLEY ELEMENTARY SCIENCE FAIR
Science Fair Guest Exhibitors Needed
March 14th from 6pm to 8pm (*set-up 5:30pm)
· Do you use math or science at work, or have a science-related job?
· Do you work in medicine, dentistry, engineering, biotechnology, energy or other science-related field?
· Do you design shoe, use specially treated fabric, make computer chip or semiconductor, or work in a laboratory?
· Do you have a science or engineering-related hobby?
If so, we hope you’ll volunteer as a guest exhibitor at the Findley Science Fair and share how science or engineering is used in your field. All you have to do is bring something the kids can see or touch for demonstration or hands-on exhibit. To volunteer or have questions, please contact Kristin Vande Zandschulp at kpvande@gmail.com.
Science Fair Letter Design Contest
- Letters are available in the office and on the PTO website under the Science Fair tab (http://www.findleypto.com/science-fair/). The letters will be used to advertise the fair in the display case at the Findley front entrance.
- You may enter as many letters as you would like to design!
- Additional letters are available in the office, and you can recycle your letter or trade this letter for another letter in the office.
- Plan your design! Use your knowledge of the color wheel and other art concepts to create a design for your letter(s).
- Think about how the letter will look at a distance—bright colors and a dark outline are best.
- If you design two or more letters, please make one of them a C, I, or E, since we need 2 of each of these letters. Doing so will increase your chances of winning!
- Write your name on the back of your letter design. If your letter is chosen for the display case, your name will appear on the Designers List.
Designs are Due Friday, March 2nd! Return completed designs to the box in the school office.

Art Literacy
In January the Findley Art Literacy Team has organized an art project based on the work of BEV DOOLITTLE 1947--present. Born and raised in California, Bev Doolittle went to a prestigious art college in Los Angeles. Working mainly with watercolor paints, Doolittle creates realistic western artworks portraying animals, nature and Native Americans.
Doolittle is often called a "camouflage artist" for her use of color, lines, shapes and patterns to create hidden images within her paintings. While looking at Doolittle's works, students will be inspired to create their own camouflage animals, paying close attention to patterns and colors while using color sticks on paper. Look forward to talking about and displaying your child's piece of colorful "camouflaged animal" artwork!

Findley Students Out and About!
We want to improve existing ways to transport storm-water runoff so that we can efficiently manage human water cycles. Storm-water runoff is recognized nationally as the leading cause of fresh water pollution today. 3.5 million Americans get sick each year after swimming, boating, fishing or otherwise using water that they thought were safe. We have come up with an innovative solution that is Eco-friendly, sustainable, and cheap. We also use smart ways to warn people by using an LCD for people who are deaf and a buzzer for people who are blind. This is an early warning system water management. Our innovative solution consists of 3 main parts: Eco-roofs, sensors, and filtration and storage systems. Our solution is meant to be implemented into commercial buildings. We have talked to lots of experts about this idea and they have supported us and would like to bring this solution to solve real life problems. We are excited to be a small part of improving our community and help manage human water cycle.
