August 23, 2021

Dear Alamo Families,

We are grateful for your patience and continued support as we transition from short to longer days. We are ready for prime time! This week is a time for many new start and end times. We begin our Regular Day Schedule (M, T, Th, F) for all grades and early/late bird schedules for kindergarten and first grade. Please check the August-only calendar link below for the added start and end times.

We are fortunate to have Mrs. Raaum and Mrs. Angle support our music programs throughout the school year. The benefits of music education are limitless and highly helpful to students. Music positively impacts academics and provides an outlet for creativity that is crucial to a child's development. Mrs. Raaum began classroom music on the first week of school, and instrumental music starts on Monday, 8/23. Please look below for Mrs. Angle's schedule, and a peek into one of Mrs. Raaum's music lessons with students.

Now that assessments are done, teachers begin analyzing the screeners given in the past two weeks. We use the data we collect from the reading and math skills screeners to place all kids in WIN (What I Need) time groups according to their needs. WIN time is a block when the whole class participates in small groups to receive intervention or enrichment. Social-emotional learning is included. Classroom paraeducators, instructional aides, and counselors assist the teachers during that time. WIN time begins on Monday, August 30.

We need your help! Please consider volunteering during lunch recess (see the link below). After Monday, You will find more white dots on the upper blacktop for social distancing to keep everyone safe when eating. We need parents to help with supervision as students will be assigned throughout the entire upper blacktop. Volunteers will be required to be vaccinated. However, until the district has finalized the tracking process, we will use the honor system. Please keep our school community safe.

We are set for our first week of full-time instruction on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday remains an adjusted day.

Kindly,

Principal Salazar

SPOTLIGHT - New Staff Members

Counselor

I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Univ. of San Francisco and my Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from St. Mary's College along with my Pupil Personnel Services Credential which allows me to be a school counselor. I worked as a school counselor at Monte Vista High School for 13 years where I supported students and their families through the academic, college/career and social-emotional situations that are presented in high school. I'm now transitioning from a high school counselor to working at Alamo and Rancho Romero Elem. Schools where I will be doing individual and group counseling along with character education. The SRVUSD District Office is working on forms and flowcharts that will help clarify which students would see the counselor, Rainbow Room support person, SCIP Intern from the Discovery Center and the MTSS specialist.

Calling all Parents!!!! Volunteers Needed for Lunch Recess!

Our school needs your help! We are looking for parent volunteers at lunch each day to help with lunch recess: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0D45A8AB28A6F94-lunch. Please check the menu for each day. Picky eaters or those with restricted diets may want to pack a lunch option for their child for the first few weeks while the District works out its kinks. Thank you in advance for volunteering!

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURE AND TARDY POLICY

Attendance Procedure

If your child is going to be absent, please email AlamoAttendance@srvusd.net , giving your child's name, and the reason for the absence, as soon as you are aware he/she won't be in school. Additionally, if you know your child is going to be late for school, please follow the same procedure. Please copy your child's teacher on these emails.

Tardy Policy

Rationale - Tardiness is unacceptable because:

  • Tardiness reduces the instructional time of the student who is late.
  • A student's tardiness interrupts the class he or she is coming into, resulting in a loss of instructional quality and time for all students.
  • Punctuality is a practice valued by business and society; students should be trained in this practice while in school.

With the above as a rationale, the following is our policy:

  1. Tardiness is defined as arriving after 8:00.
  2. The student must go to the main office for a tardy pass before going to class.

OFFICE HOURS: 7:30 - 4:00 PM (925) 855-4800

FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE

Please remember that we are still in the middle of a pandemic. All students and staff must wear masks indoors at all times.

All student absences should be reported to the AL attendance line which can be reached by emailing alamoattendance@srvusd.net.

Please refer to the updated Covid guidance that is posted on the district website: Updated Covid Policy 2021-2022. Please note that student absences need to be cleared by a physician's note and/or a Covid test (home tests are not allowed at this time).

Thank you so much for your attention in this very important matter. We appreciate your cooperation to keep all our school community safe and healthy.

All classes are hand sanitizing before entering classrooms. Thank you, Ms. Mayer!
