RAT Testing distribution to NZ Schools
I feel it’s important to clarify a key misconception that I am currently hearing.. Yes, RAT tests are being distributed to NZ schools for students and teachers. However, no RAT tests will be administered to any Stanley Avenue School students on school site, by school personnel. If students are symptomatic at school our normal procedures will continue. Parents/ Caregivers will be notified and asked to pick students up. Parents/ Caregivers will then be offered to take a RAT test home, in order to test their children at home. Taking a RAT test home is optional, but are available if Parents/ Caregivers would like to take them. Additionally, if teachers are symptomatic, they are available for teachers to use.
We should be receiving the RAT tests within the next week.
Thank you for your understanding around this matter.

Message from Mrs Meyler
It was lovely to see some of our familiar faces joining us back at school this week. The joy on the faces of friends as they return to class and reconnect with their peers is such a pleasure to witness. Staff are excited that our playground is alive once again with the chatter and laughter of children. We look forward to seeing all of our faces back with us in the near future.
Please continue to talk with us so that we can support you and let us know if there is anything we can do. If your child is isolating as a household contact and then contracts Covid, please let us know as we are required to report numbers to the Ministry. If your child has not had Covid and someone in the house contracts Covid during isolation time, then their isolation time restarts with that person. If they have had it and are well, they may return after 7 days.
Thank you so much for all of the support that we have enjoyed from you, our school community, during these tricky times. It has been lovely hearing from our Whānau and checking in on how you are all doing. We are so fortunate in these times to live in a wonderful community that supports each other. Way to go Stanley Avenue!

Swimming
Team Piwakawaka and Team Pukeko have finished swimming for the term, as they struggle to stay warm, the cooler nights and mornings having a marked effect on the temperature of the pool. Check out the photo of Piwakawaka saying farewell to Term 1 swimming.
Basketball Year 5 - 8
There has been a change to the format for this term, to enable our children to keep playing basketball as Te Aroha copes with the effects of Covid in our area.
Starting next week, the Year 7 & 8 children can go to the Silver Fern Event Centre on a Monday evening, 5pm – 6.30pm, and the Year 5 & 6 children will play on a Wednesday evening, 5 - 6.30pm. Students will pay $5 at the door and have 30 minutes coaching and then an hour of playing. The teams will be formed each week at the Event Centre, determined by the numbers attending from all of the local schools.
Any child of the correct year group who is well and not isolating, regardless of vaccination status, can play. However, only vaccinated adults (18 and over) are allowed into the Events Centre at this stage. This is to make sure that they keep below the 100 person threshold as per Ministry of Health guidelines.
Room Piwakawaka!!!
They have been all at sea!
There are lots of awesome origami fish art and some great descriptions of the fish in the bubble sea mural. On Thursday we had a frozen sea bowl...and as it melted we uncovered all sorts of sea creatures. On Friday we discovered more sea creatures from our now completely melted bowl, and learned lots of interesting facts about them. Mrs Roskam brought in her chilly bin and we wrote some very interesting stories about what might be in the chilly bin....and then after morning tea....we found out!!!! Frozen balloons filled with sea creatures. We have had lots of fun discovering all about the sea this week.
