Happy May! There is a lot going on at SABE!!! From NWEA testing, end of year field trips, grade level promotion planning and of course, still great teaching and learning.

We are looking forward to our last days of the 2022-2023 school year. Please look below for information about the End of the Year SABE Explorando and the rest of our school year! We will also have our annual field day at Mountain View Park on our last day of school, June 5th. Please look for volunteer opportunities with our PTA to help all our students have a great day of fun and play!

We have started our planning for the 2023-2024 school year. I am in the process of working out our school calendar and waiting on the budget details from our NMPED. Please look for more information soon. I will also be sending out a budget input survey to all parents within the next week. As I'm sure you have heard, there will be some changes per the 2023 Legislative Session mandates. I am working with all those new laws to ensure a continued strong program with great teachers and resources for our SABE scholars.

We are quickly coming upon our 2023-2024 School year. We will hold the lottery for our new students on Thursday, May 11th.

It is very critical that you secure your child's spot by completing both the committment to re-enroll and the registration packet sent to your email addresses. Please look for that email from registration@nmsabe.org. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Almanza at 505-771-0555.

Here are the dates to remember:

• Returning Students and Siblings: Registration packets are due no later than Wednesday, May 10th, 2023 in order to hold your child's' spot for the 2023-2024 school year.
  
• Wednesday, May 10th, 2023: Last Day to Submit Lottery Enrollment form for NEW STUDENTS for the 2022-2023 school year
• Thursday, May 11th, 2023: Lottery held via Zoom.

SABE Explorando is SABE's "summer camp". During these four days, teachers will provide activities and host students from different grade levels. All staff members will be teaching a class of their choice. Students will be able to to choose from a variety of classes. Classes may include art, music, computer skills, crochet, healthy habits, etc. We will provide more details when these are all determined.

The school's Lost and Found has a variety of unclaimed items. Any items not claimed by the end of the school year, will be donated to a local charity. If you feel that your child's lost item may be in our Lost and Found please call the school office.

Come help celebrate the wonderful things our students have been doing in music class this year.

On May 17th and 18th, parents of K-2 students will be invited to join their students' music classes for Informances during the day.

On May 18th, students grades 3 through 8 will be performing from 6-8 pm at SABE.

We will send a more detailed schedule closer to the event.

This program is a great way to motivate your child or children to read during the summer. This helps maintain a love of reading and help them continue making gains in their reading skills. Would you like your child to participate in a summer program with an academic twist? Below are some free NMPED community resources.

We have some great news out of our state legislature, and Governor Lujan Grisham signed the bill this 2023 Legislative Session. All students in the state of New Mexico will have access to free breakfast and lunch for the 2023-2024 school year! We will still need the federal applications as part of the requirement, but it will ensure that all our students will have access to the meals provided at the school.

Everyone that has a balance on their account will receive a letter of what is still outstanding. It is imperative that you pay this outstanding balance before the end of the year. These negative balances will impact our planning and budget for the rest of the school year. If you need questions, please contact Mrs. Vaughn at the school.

We are now following the SABE policy for communicable illnesses. All students and staff that are ill with COVID and/or flu symptoms must stay home until they have no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication and no increase in symptoms. A mask must be worn for 10 days from the first symptom onset unless a negative COVID (including home tests) test is shared with our health office.
