The Madison Message
January 21, 2022 Edition!
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Resources
We Would Love to Hear from You!
Our school community has been invited to complete the Illinois 5Essentials Parent Survey. The information you provide will help guide improvement as we strive to inspire each student to excel through the education and opportunities we provide at Madison.
Your participation in this survey is voluntary and anonymous but crucial. We can’t receive results from the survey unless at least 20 percent of parents respond. The more responses parents provide, the more we will know how to focus our efforts toward the improvements you want. Take the survey today!
Go to: https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois to take the survey.
Select “Parent Survey.”
You may enter your email address if you would like to receive confirmation of your submission, but it is not required.
Then enter “[DuPage]” into the county field and “Madison” to find our school.
You will then be asked a series of questions to provide input regarding your family’s experience here at Madison. Please remember to click “submit” once you are done so your responses can be counted.
Please know that your identity and responses will be kept confidential and will not be connected with your child. If you have multiple children who attend Madison, you may complete one survey for each child. However, only one parent per household may submit a survey for a given child. The survey closes on March 11, so please submit your responses soon!
Thank you in advance for your time and input. We appreciate you!
School Improvement Plan Goals
- Reading in Primary Grades: improving developmental spelling instruction, phonics instruction, reading fluency, and memorization of common sight words
- Reading in Intermediate Grades: increasing the frequency that students analyze two paired texts and type a thorough response to their reading.
- Math: Grade-level teacher teams (PLCs) use common formative assessments, during, and after our math units and analyze the data for future planning.
Program of Accelerated Curriculum and Enrichment (PACE)
Madison Second graders will be screened for PACE the week of January 31-February 4.
Parents of second graders who are eligible for further PACE testing based on the Cognitive Abilities Test and/or local assessments will be notified at the end of February for Iowa subtests for math and/or reading. Testing will qualify students for 3rd Grade PACE Mathematics and Reading for the following 2022 -2023.
In late February, into March 2022, the PACE Office will host testing for currently enrolled 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students. Students in Grades 3-5 may be recommended for testing by their teacher and/or parent. The deadline for a parent to request PACE Testing is Monday, February 1, 2022. This testing will include the CogAT 8 and subtests from the Iowa Assessments. Testing will qualify elementary students for the 4th, 5th Grade PACE Mathematics and Reading and 6th-grade Fast-Paced Mathematics and Language Arts program in 2022-2023 school year.
Please Note – Students currently in PACE Program Classes do not need to re-test.
Parent Testing Referral Forms can be found on the District 200 website
Please contact the District 200 PACE Office at (630) 682-2024 or email PACE@cusd200.org with any questions.
Phones, Internet and Social Media Safety for Kids
This recent article from Common Sense Media is a great read with helpful tips on kids and social media! Here are a few tips from your principal and the article:
- Students should not bring smart devices to school. If students need it for after school, the device should be kept in their backpack during school hours.
- Keep smartphones, iPads, and laptops out of the bedroom (especially at night)
- Set screentime limits. Apple products are now very easy to add parental controls.
- Stick to the age-appropriate guidelines for each social media app (Instagram, Tik Tok, Snapchat 12+, YouTube 17+, YouTube Kids 4+)
- Sit next to your child during online times and talk through the media they take in.
- Review what kinds of Tik Toks and reels these sites choose for your child. Scroll through the content that is based on your child's "likes" and demographics.
- Need reinforcements? We all do at times. Feel free to blame it on Mr. Callahan and say "The principal said you shouldn't have social media yet!"
