Third Graders Did AWESOME in Their Musical!
Calling All 5th Graders!
Calling all S-P-E-L-L-E-R-S! The Park Hill School District spelling bee will be held on
Saturday, February 23rd. Park Hill is now sponsoring its own spelling bee, so the winner of the district bee will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Maryland (20 minutes from Washington DC), May 26-May 31. The top ten finishers will earn medals, and the top three students will receive trophies.
The event will begin Saturday morning at Park Hill South High School with a computerized spelling test. The results of the test will be used to select 60 students who will participate in the on-stage Spelling Bee in the Park Hill South High School Auditorium at 2:00 pm that same day.
All current Park Hill 5th through 8th graders are eligible, but students must sign up by
February 1st to participate. Register today at the link: http://tinyurl.com/PH2019spellingbee
or by going to the District website and selecting “spelling bee” under the Parent Resources section. You may also contact the Line Creek front office for assistance in registering online. Once you sign up, you will receive a copy of the spelling word study list by email.
We look forward to seeing you at this exciting celebration of academic talent!
The Nutcracker Came to Line Creek!
Thanks for sponsoring the performance, Line Creek PTA!
Winter Parties - Note from Line Creek PTA
Dear Parents,
The Winter Party will be held on Friday, December 21st from 10:30 am - 11:15 am. Note that it is a morning party since it is a half day before winter break.
PTA will be providing pizza for all classes for the Winter Party. If your child has any allergies that would prevent them from having cheese pizza, please contact their teacher with direction on what type of pizza the PTA can provide instead.
In addition to the craft or game, donations are needed for plates, napkins, beverages (water/juice box), and a pre-packaged healthy snack. If you sign up for a pre-packaged healthy snack, please be aware of any allergies that may exist in your child's classroom.
Please use this link to sign up to bring in the needed items to share with the entire class. Please include your name and contact information (email or phone number). Please make sure all items are at the school by the end of the day on Thursday, December 20th. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend the classroom parties!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fifth grade parents, we will have the same format for the 5th grade winter party as we did for the fall party. See the sign up genius that is included under the 5th grade tab.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact your room parent(s) or email PTA at linecreekelempta@gmail.com. Thank you for your help in making the Winter Party a fun event!
In addition, if anybody is looking for gift ideas for teachers or staff, check out the staff's favorite things listed here for some ideas.

Reading Without Walls - Library Challenge
I wanted to update you on one of our new library happenings, book talks! I’ve introduced grades 3-5 to a challenge called Reading without Walls. It is a national reading challenge where readers are asked to do three things:
- Read a book on a topic you do not know much about.
- Read a book with character that does not look or live like you.
- Read a book in a format or genre that you do not normally read.
To help promote this challenge and share great books, I've trained the students on how to film quick, quality book talks. There is a link to a FlipGrid set up on the Line Creek website. It is on the media center page, right above my picture. All 3rd-5th graders are encouraged to film a quick, quality book talk after they finished a book they liked. They log in through google and use their PH credentials. They can film this during library checkout time, at home, or in the classroom at appropriate times.
Click HERE to access our book talks.
Thanks for promoting a love of reading!

Habit of the Month - Put First Things First
This month your child(ren) will be learning about Habit 3: Put First Things First.
Please read about this habit and share this habit at home.
Put First Things First at Home: Work First, Then Play
- Do the things that I have to do before I do the things that I want to do.
- Stay focused on what I'm doing and try to minimize distractions and regroup if I get off task.
- Spend my time on the things that are the most important.
Activity Ideas
1) Define "big rocks" and "little rocks" as a family. Big rocks are the things we prioritize as most important. You can think, "What would happen if I didn't do this at all next week...?" Some times little rocks keep us too busy to do big rocks - the things most important to us (watching TV, checking social media, etc.). Put big rocks first!
2) Schedule one on one time.
3) Make time for family meals.
4) Create regular weekly family times.
5) Build family traditions.
Park Hill Stars
The Park Hill Star recognition program was started in 2015 to celebrate support staff and teachers whose work is especially noteworthy.
The following is an overview of the Park Hill Star Program:
Our employees are the reason we are so successful here in the Park Hill School District, and we would like to recognize them for all they do for our students.
That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher and a support employee.
Nominations are not being accepted at this time, but opportunities will re-open at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year. Thanks to everyone who took the time to nominate a Park Hill Star this year!

Lion LowDown Line Creek Elementary Communication
You will find several ways to stay up to date on school activities throughout the year on the Line Creek website, Facebook, Twitter and newsletters from your child’s teacher. You will also occasionally get an automated email or voicemail message sent to you by the school with important information and reminders. We know two-way communication is best, so please feel free to call, email, or stop by the school with any questions you may have regarding your child’s education.
