How to use a compass in the northern hemisphere.
Earth's magnetic field
Earth's magnetic field is what allows you to use a compass because the compass uses the magnetic field to tell you which way you are going. If you are on the equator you will not be able to use a compass because it will try to connect to the northern and southern pole at the same time and spin out of control. So if you are going to use a compass then choose a side of the equator to use it on so it will actually work correctly.
How to use a compass in the northern hemisphere
How you are supposed to use a compass in the northern hemisphere is you are supposed to hole the compass flat. It can find the northern magnetic pole and once it has found that pole then you have to look at the little marks in the compass and see how many degrees you need to turn to get to where you are trying to go. That is how you use a compass in the northern hemisphere.
How to use a compass in the southern hemisphere
In the southern hemisphere all you have to do is do what you would do in the northern hemisphere. You will line up compass needles with the S on the compass. Then you will look at the marks on the compass and go the direction you think or know you need to go. That is how you use a compass in the southern hemisphere.
