Coffee, soda, tea or any beverage with caffeine cannot be counted as a glass of water.
Please return Water Logs the week before winter break. Water Logs will be displayed in the gym.

Hello Mathews families!
Next week, Mathews Elementary and the Mathews PTA will be celebrating PTA Healthy
Lifestyles Week. We are encouraging our students to practice these habits both at
school and at home.
The bingo card, (Click the button below.) has 16 ideas for students to try at home
with their family and friends. Participation is completely voluntary.
At the end of November, we will be drawing one student’s name to receive a Healthy Lifestyles
basket from the Mathews PTA.
If your child/ren choose to participate, please have them check off the boxes as the complete the activities, fill in their name, have a parent sign the form where noted and return the bingo card to Mathews no later than November 30, 2021.
Entries are as follows:
- Complete 4 activities - 1 entry
- Complete 8 activities - 2 entries
- Complete all activities - 3 entries
We look forward to celebrating “with” you.

CAN YOU HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
The following food items CAN be collected: all non-perishable food donations, such as peanut butter, CANned/pouched meats such as chicken & tuna, snack bars, CANned fruits and vegetables, boxed pasta, boxed or bagged rice or beans, etc. *Expired, opened or damaged goods will not be accepted. The food drive begins November 10 and runs through November 30. Let's show how we make a difference when we care.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Diversity Art and Writing Contests Now Accepting Entries
The 35th annual MLK Jr. Diversity Art and Writing contests are now open. Students preK-12 may participate in the art contest and students preK-5 may participate in the writing contest. Students PreK-5 are welcome to enter both contests if they choose to do so.
Entries are due by November 30, 2021. Please accompany entries with the signed permission form available here:
Art Guidelines(preK-12)
Create a work of art inspired by the theme: Together we honor the past, inspire the present, and change the future.
· One art entry per student
· Students PreK-12 may participate in the art contest
· All media accepted
· Work may be Two or Three-Dimensional Work
· Maximum 2-D size including mat is 24” x 30”
· Maximum 3-D size is 16”H x 12” D x 16” W
Writing Guidelines (preK-5)
Create a poem or essay inspired by the theme: Together we honor the past, inspire the present and change the future.
· One writing entry per student
· Students Pre-K-5 may participate in the writing contest
· Writing entries may be handwritten or typed.
Entry Guidelines
· Students do not need to enter in both the art and writing contests to participate.
· All entries must be original. No copy work will be allowed.
· All entries must be created solely by the student.
· Entry must be accompanied by a signed entry form taped to the back.
Students may turn in their entries for both art and writing to Mr. Lozano at Mathews.
BOOK FAIR!
Book Fair is Back!
The PTA is excited to share the following updated information regarding our upcoming book fair:
This year the book fair will once again be physically on campus in the library. Our students will be shopping or looking at books during their designated class visit schedule.
Book Fair Dates: December 6th - 10th
Hours: Mon, Weds, Thurs 8:30 - 11:30 am, Tues 8:00-11:30 am, Fri 8:30am - 10:30am
While we will not have parents come to school to shop with their student(s) for this book fair, class visit volunteers will be able to come into the building, limited to 3 per class.

DROP OFF DELIVERY TIMES
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT:
Thank you for helping your children prepare each morning in advance to bring what they need to school with them.
We understand that sometimes there are forgotten items like glasses that need to be brought to school. In the case of glasses we promise to get them to our child quickly so they can fully participate in their learning.
As a reminder, changes to dropped off items (effective 11/1):
If items are dropped off after 7:40 please note:
Dropped off items (water bottles, backpack, snack, clothing, lunch, chromebook, etc) will be delivered at 10:00 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m.
