Arctic Blast
Glacier Ridge Elementary School 11.19.21
Dear Glacier Ridge Families,
At this time of the year we all can take some time and reflect on all the things that we are thankful for. Here at GRS we are truly thankful to be working with our students every day. We would like to wish all an early Happy Thanksgiving and hope you all get time to reflect on what you are thankful for no matter how small it might be.
We are also thankful for all of you that help support the Community Harvest Food Drive. It started off slow, but we were able to fill the box for the Food Pantry. Way to go Glacier Ridge!
Monday and Tuesday of next week are our student conferences. We look forward to seeing you. Please remember that masks are required while in the building.
Take care and Happy Thanksgiving,
Mr. Jacobsen and Mrs. Reinhardt

We are still looking for volunteers to make the book fair run smoothly! If you would like to help, please click the link below to sign up. Please remember masks must be worn and to social distance when at the book fair. Thanks for your help!
Cold Weather Policies
Reminder: Inclement Weather
District 47 families received a message about winter weather and planning for possible school closings in early November. Should schools need to close due to inclement weather, District 47 students will be utilizing the emergency “snow day” in the school calendar as we did prior to COVID.
Parent Teacher Conferences
The official sign-up for conferences has closed but we do hope you were able to secure a timeslot. Conferences are being held at school in your student's classroom (or by request, via zoom) either November 22nd or 23rd. If you are unsure of your conference time, you can log back into ParentVue to confirm. Please arrive promptly for your scheduled time as we want to give you ample time to discuss your student's progress with his/her teacher, and remember we do want your student present.
If you have questions about conferences, please reach out directly to your child's teacher.

Elementary lunch menu changes
Due to staffing and supply chain issues, Sodexo will be reducing its lunch menu options for D47 elementary schools beginning in December. Students will be able to choose from the hot lunch item being served that day or “Fun on the Run.” These changes will be reflected on the December elementary lunch menu.
Public Act 102-0340: Menstrual Hygiene Products
Over winter break, in accordance with Public Act 102-0340, menstrual hygiene products and dispensers will be installed in all elementary and middle school restrooms used by District 47 students in grades 4-8. Though a similar bill (Public Act 100-0163) was signed into law in 2017, this more recent law underscores the requirement for free menstrual products to be made available in all restrooms used by students in grades 4-12.
It's A Bird! It's A Plane! It's SUPER Library!
There is SO much excitement in the library! See details in this Arctic Blast regarding the Scholastic Book Fair (in the library 11/19-11/23) and our Reading Colors Your World Family Reading Night (11/18). Classes have been working on getting ready for both events, so we hope to see you (virtually or in person) for both!
A RECORD HAS BEEN BROKEN!! We received a book that was checked out on 10/31/2019! Keep up the amazing work! Please be sure your child is bringing library books back to school on their library day or before. Even if they are still reading, they can renew the book if it is at school. We are almost reaching our goal of every child checking out at least one book every week! If books are lost or damaged, please email gwjohnston@d47.org. Thank you!
