Youth Ministry Connection
Zion Lutheran Church 9th-12th Grade
May 2023
May is here and the end of the year is in sight. Sometimes it looks really close and sometimes it looks too far away. And sometimes, anything good may seem like that sometimes. Maybe you're waiting for a break or to feel at peace again or for your life to make sense again. And what can we do while we wait?
“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.” (Psalm 130:5-6)
While we wait, we can have hope. Hope in what? Hope in His Word. Trust in that incredible Word of His. When we're down to nothing, God is up to something. Let's look forward and hope in Him.
And as we look ahead, we can look forward to exciting things happening in Youth Ministry!
May your May come with blessings, hope, and trust in His Word,
Laura-Li
Connection Hour
We will continue into a new series called "Heroes" where we will look at different superheroes in Marvel/DC and in Scripture and how they can apply to our own faith journey.
And then we will finish the last two Sundays before our summer break with a series called "Different" (that we will also be doing during Wednesday Night LIFE Group) and a missions Sunday.
We meet in the Youth Room at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays.
May 7th: "Heroes" - Iron Man
May 14th: "Different" Series
May 21st: Missions Connection Hour
Wednesday Night LIFE Group
"Today’s world tells teens to walk around life with a mirror in front of their face. They question their looks, persona, and acceptance nonstop, thinking that one more post on social media might gain people’s attention. Money and possessions become badges of wealth and worth that teenagers fight to wear. This obsession with self can even take a dark turn, spiraling into depression or suicide. Living with eyes glued on yourself will only lead to one thing: death.
God offers an alternative to the mirror. When God rules over our lives, he flips everything upside down. His kingdom looks nothing like the ways of the world—everything orients around loving him and serving others.
In this series, Jonathan Evans (an author, speaker, former NFL fullback, and chaplain to the Dallas Cowboys) will walk students through the parables in Luke to teach what it looks like for God to rule our lives." - Description from RightNowMedia
Here's a trailer for the series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nnxa5DdQWco
We meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Youth Room.
Here are the weeks ahead:

May 10th: "Different" (Different Foundations)
May 17th: "Different" (Different Heart)
May 24th (Last LIFE before summer!): "Different" (Different Lifestyle)
Hang Time: Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 Movie
Since we have been focusing on Super Heroes in Connection Hour, what a fitting way to end our series by going to see a movie with super heroes in it! I'll send out an email later this week with more information about it!
