ThunderRidge Weekly Update
May 12, 2023
Patterson's Perspective
Grizzly Families,
It's an exciting time at ThunderRidge as we approach graduation and the end of the school year.
Today is a special day as students receive their yearbooks, and we celebrate the senior class with the Moving Up Ceremony, Last Blast and Senior BBQ.
Monday night we are hosting our Senior Awards Ceremony, and Tuesday the Class of 2023 will graduate at DU. I look forward to honoring our seniors alongside our staff, families and community. Congratulations and thank you to all of you who have worked so hard to earn your diplomas.
There will be no school for underclassmen on Tuesday May 16th due to graduation.
We look forward to the next few weeks and finishing the school year strong. Parents of 9th, 10th and 11th graders please continue to monitor grades as we get closer to finals. Students that need extra help can use Access and Advisement time to go see their teachers.
Thank you all. Have a great weekend.

Peace Jam, Welding Class, and Trash Cans
A Message From PeaceJam
The PeaceJam Club at ThunderRidge works in the areas of Environmental and Social Justice.
For years we have been trying to get our parking lots cleaned up from all of the trash that students throw out. Going out and picking it up doesn't really get to the root of the problem, so we asked the welding class if they could design and build trash cans that can be mounted on the light poles so they are closer to students' cars. (We know they should be able to walk to the currently available trash cans, but they don’t!) Mr. Chaparro and the welding students came through and built 4 cans. The Highlands Ranch Rotary funded the initial 4 and 4 more for next year. We hope to have the cans up on the poles before the end of the school year, or at least by the beginning of school in August. Thank you Mr. Chaparro, welding students and Highlands Ranch Rotary!
Moving or attending a school other than TRHS for the 2023-24 school year?
If your child will be attending another high school for the 2023-24 school year, please notify Tiffany Klenke, Registrar, at tklenke@dcsdk12.org as soon as possible. The withdrawal paperwork will be started and instructions on returning books, paying fees, etc will be explained. Following this process will allow for a smooth transition to the new school.

ThunderRidge High School - Grizzly Walk Brick Fundraiser
ThunderRidge High School is selling engraved bricks to resurface the sidewalk at the main entrance of the building. These bricks are a great way for families to commemorate their time as Grizzlies for years to come! Funds raised through the sale of these bricks will go directly back to improving facilities for our students. Portions of the funds can also be given to the club/sport/activity of your choice, just choose which organization you would like those funds to go to and we will take care of the rest.

Teen Reading Buddies Needed
Do you work well with kids and are you looking for a fun volunteer opportunity this summer?
The Highlands Ranch Library is now accepting applications to become a Teen Reading Buddy. Our Reading Buddies program pairs a trained teen volunteer with a current 1st through 3rd grade child who is having challenges with reading. The program also helps teens develop teaching and leadership skills.
Teams meet at the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:45 - 5:15. The summer term will run June 1 - 29.
Applications are due Friday, May 12. Teens can find more information and apply through https://dcl.org/volunteer/. For questions, please email hireadingbuddies@dclibraries.org, call 303-791-READ, or stop by a branch and talk to any of our friendly staff members!
