There are more than 220,000 hybrid cars on the roads of America, delivering real health and environmental benefits. Electric cars are cleaner than vehicles that run on oil, even when charged with coal-fired power. In the last two years electric car sales have gone up by 500 percent. Ten years ago, there were only two hybrid car models available, but now there are close to 50.

Most hybrids and electric cars cost between $25,000 and $34,000. Some hybrids may cost less than that or it could cost more than that.


The only real maintenance on the electric side of hybrids is the air filter on the battery system needs to be replaced every 40,000 miles. Some replacement batteries can cost up to $2,500. On the gasoline part, it needs the same maintenance as a regular vehicle.
