Husky Howler

Dear Hill-Roberts Families,

In case you missed Supt. Sawyer's email this afternoon, last evening, our School Committee voted unanimously (9-0) to move us to the full-remote model starting January 4th, continuing through January 15th. We will remain in the hybrid model next week and we look forward to seeing our Cohort A/C students in-person on Monday and Cohort B/C students in-person on Tuesday. I cannot overemphasize the importance of sending your children to school on their in-person days next week as teachers will be sending home materials that may be needed over the remote period.

During their January 11th meeting, they will reevaluate conditions and decide whether to keep us in the remote model for an additional two weeks or have us return to the hybrid model on 1/19. Click this link to view the meeting in its entirety.

As Supt. Sawyer stated last night, even if the committee votes to have us return to hybrid after 1/15, there's a strong chance that the schools will be in a position where due to daily staffing or building conditions, we may have to close for a short period of time without much notice, much like we nearly had to do a few weeks ago. I remain optimistic that we'll be able to continue to manage these situations but I'd be remiss if I didn't advise you all to have contingency plans for childcare for the time period between now and February break.

As next week is a short week due to the holiday, this will be the final Howler of 2020. However, you'll still receive communication with more information about what to expect for the remote period. That will come once we have all the details ironed out.

While this may seem like a step backward to many, I can’t help but think the light at the end of the tunnel is beginning to come into focus. I wish you all a relaxing break. I hope you're able to enjoy your time together as a family.

Warm regards,

Mr. Rich, Principal

This Week in Health

Hello Huskies!

We have been working extremely hard in Health class. Your Huskies have been taking risks and have started learning Public Speaking and using CREST (caring about what the speaker is sharing, respectful full body listening, showing excellence by gaining self-confidence, the speaker has a safe space to share information and the listeners are giving them a safe space to learn from the speaker and the speaker trusts the listeners to show CREST). All have been very excited to share how they have been keeping their bodies and minds safe and healthy every week.

Your Huskies have also been studying "The Power of Yet".....I can't do this....YET; I am still learning......I am not good at this.....YET; I am still learning. The Power of Yet has been a great learning opportunity for your Huskies to learn more challenging Yoga Poses and feel confident in practicing in a group and encouraging each other. From the pictures, you can see that your Huskies are challenging themselves and are excited to try new things in Health class.

In yoga we are taking risks with more difficult poses that are testing your Huskies balance, strength, and focus. If you ask they can show you their Warrior III Airplane, Crow and Flying Crow. They are really enjoying the challenges!

We are still learning ways to keep ourselves safe and healthy both in body and mind. Kindergarteners and first graders are working on Healthy Choices and Healthy Food Choices. Second, third and fourth graders are starting to learn how to create nutritious meals with the Five Food Groups.

Finally, your Huskies are discussing different healthy activities to do as the weather gets colder and how we can still be active when the weather is cold or rainy, or snowy. We do still try to get outside even if it is for just a short part of class so please keep dressing your husky in weather-appropriate clothing on the days they have Health Class!
