APTT - Academic Parent Teacher Team Meeting

Last Tuesday we had our second APTT meeting, and I want to thank all who were able to attend. I know that this is a very busy time of the year, and it's not always easy to fit one more thing into your schedule.

In the meeting, I displayed a graph showing the progress that our students have made in "describing" through our numerous "show and tell" presentation. I then discussed our next skill set which is analyzing, comparing, and sorting. Homework for this next segment will be various sorting projects. Last week's homework consisted of sorting the laundry. I will send home a new APTT assignment each Monday with the due date the following Friday. Please be sure to help your child complete this homework. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Helping out the Gingerbread Man - A STEM Project

We read the story of the Gingerbread man and realized that if there had been a bridge across the stream, then the Gingerbread man wouldn't have had to ask the sly fox to help him out and may very well still be running. So we decided to use our STEM skills and build a bridge to help the Gingerbread man out.

Problem: The Gingerbread man needed a bridge

Materials available: 2 index cards, 6 straws, 6 paper clips, 6 toothpicks and 1 yard of masking tape.

Challenge: to build a bridge - The bridge that can hold the most weight wins!

Step 1 Plan and Design

First the students formed teams and then took a few minutes to plan and design their bridge

Step 3 Testing the Bridge Out Before Presenting it to the Class

The students had a chance to test out their design before making their presentation. Many went back to their plans and made some necessary adjustments.
